An opening-night crowd of 1,527 endured breakdowns in the brand-new public address system, the pizza machine and plumbing problems in the rest rooms. But, the performances of Brian "Cool Moo" Mouton, Miguel Castellano and Steve Dreyer all made the inconveniences more bearable for the home-team fans. Mouton kept heat in the ballpark during the summery night by going a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate.

The 19-year-old Oakland, resident, drafted last year by the Texas Rangers parent club of the Copper Kings, drove in four runs and scored two others. The 6-3, 230-pound product of Oakland's Laney Junior College, who played for the Rangers' Gulf Coast League team in Port Charlotte, last season, tripled in his first at bat to knock in the Copper Kings' first two runs of the season for a 2-0 first-inning lead over the Pocatello-based club. Castellano, a Venezuelan who played with Mouton in Port Charlotte, provided three hits in four at bats, scored two runs, batted in three all on a game-clinching bases-loaded double in the seventh inning and stole a base. But, the biggest ovation he received was for robbing Gate City's Hiroyuki Satoh of an extra-base hit in the eighth inning. Castellano, playing third base, dove to his left to smother a hot one-hop smash off of Satoh's bat.

He then rose and easily threw the Pioneer out at first, played by Mouton. Dreyer, a right-hander drafted by the Rangers earlier this month from Northern Iowa, started on the mound for Butte and hurled five standout innings, then leaving only because of having reached his pitch quota. In his stint, Dreyer scattered six hits, gave up three earned runs all in the fourth inning walked two batters and struck out six. 1 'l i 11 w. m.

i Dreyer fires pitch and Brian Mouton triples during LEGION BASEBALL Miners this season. They're 2-11 overall. Helena dropped to 1-4 and 11-12 going into a 7 p.m. Thursday game against Butte at Kindrick Legion Field. Right-hander Jason Zolynski will pitch for Butte, said Miners Coach Jim Hanley.

Michelotti (1-2) held Helena to five hits and only of 34 Senator batters reached base. Michelotti and Senator starter Derek Beaman had things their way the first five innings as neither team made a serious scoring threat. Butte's Dan Leary opened the Butte sixth with a single to right and, when Senator right fielder Josh Colberg failed to field the ball cleanly, Leary scampered into second. Butte's next hitter, Jeff Le-Prowse, hit Beaman's first offering for a single to give the Miners base runners at the corners with no outs. Leary then scored on a sacrifice fly by Corey Dunstan.

The Senators gave up another single in the inning, but a Joe Beatty to Kyle Garrity to Ryan Grovom double play finished the inning without further damage. Michelotti cruised through the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and, at one stretch, had retired 12 straight Senators. The Miners went on to score once in the seventh and twice in the eighth to lead 4-0. A lone run in the final inning gave the Miners their final spread. In the two-run eighth, LeProwse and Dunstan got things started with back-to-back singles.
