SVAIIAIL Sept. decided sensation was caused here today by the announcement that George Lawrence, the wealthy merchant and banker residing at North had been found in Gasconade County, Missouri, and returned to his home.

One night early hi August Lawrence, Who was deranged, escaped front the Indiana Institute for the Insane, and since then not a word had been heard from him. His friends had almost given him up for dead. as no replies to the circulars and photographs offering reward and distributed all over the country had been received. Saturday from the Sheriff of Gasconade County was received, and a relative went out. identified him, paid the reward, and brought him home.

After escaping Mr. Lawrence went to St. Louis and secured employment as traveling salesman 1or a firm, and he objected strongly to returning. TERRITILE SALOON TRAGEDY. HAMMOND.

Sept. Hessville, near here. yesterday durinst a scuffle over a refusal to pay for drinks in Joseph Iless saloon, a window was broken. This so incensed Hess that he stuck a pitchfork Into the breast of Mr. Yearnsen: his son, Edward Hess, fired into the crowd with a double-harreled shotgun, fatally wounding Thomas Ve6h and George Adams, and Wounding James Conley.

A detective spotted the man at the post-Office as he was inquiring for letters addressed to William Masters, and shortly afterward lie was arrested. Gee refuses to talk, but the girl says she had known him for several months, and, although she knew be had a wife and children, she consented to an elopement on nis promise to marry her as on as he reached Minnesota.

She says the man bad not lived with his wife for a year or so, and he told her that In this State the laws recognized a separation of one year as a divorce. She expresses a desire to be rid of the man and to return to her bottle. A requisition has been issued and the two will be taken to Danville tomorrow. AN ELEVATED ROAD. Surveyors started on the work of fixing the hue for the elevated railway between this city and St.

Paul today. The line will run from Division street in Minneapolis past Lake Como and its terminus in St. Paul will be Arundel street.
