They did jt well, too, and numerous other selections also on a long program which the audience of 2.500 people lengthennd by their applause and cheers. The children were the pupils in Prof. E.

A. Weiss' music schools, jjj-i the occasion was their annual concert. Prof. Weiss' schools are run on a somewhat novel plan. For the sum of $1 he teaches either children or adults the violin for one year.

He furnishes the violins. The $1 buys an iBtrodu-tion book. He conducts eight schools, located in the halls in different sections of the city, and from the vicinity of which his pupils re drawn. Prof. Weiss says he has instructed cer "8,000 children in this way since his arrival in the city a few years ago.

He now has, he says. 2,000 pupils in attendance en his schools. They represent many classes in life and they include among their numbers children who show evidence of me possession of marked musical talent. His plan is calculated to develop the talent latent in children of parents who are too poor to afford them more costly instruction. Prof.

Weiss teaches singing, too, at a nominal cost. Ihe little performers last night were with few exceptions beginners pupils in their first year. Seated on a sloping platform on the huge stage, the girls in the center and the boys on either side, they made a pretty picture. No chorus of grand or comic opera singers that ever was grouped upon the Auditorium stage ever attacked its music with more vim and enthusiasm. They sang Columbia," "America."
