I he case will be argued to the jury tomorrow, and I have been told that Mr. Dow will speak in person. Fire. Yesterday about 1 o'clock, while the family was at church, a fire broke out in the dwelling of C. S.

Wallack, which communicated to the adjoining dwelling of George Grouard, Ksq and for some time resisted all efforts to subdue it, which, however, was done without serious damage. Yours, kc. V. Correspondence of the Baltimore SunJ Washington Navy Yard, Nov. 15, 1845.

A rumor which has been current here for a day or two, has had the effect to lighten up the countenances of many who had yielded to tearful apprehensions that little or no work would be ordered in this yard during the approaching winter. It is this that the secretary of the navy intends to have the sleamer Union hauled up, thoroughly overhauled, and, with a new sett of boilers, rendered seaworthy and efficient for the service along the coast. Such an order Would be highly appreciated; the workmanship -could not be excelled nor the terms more moderate in any part of the country. By the way where is the veteran Com. Morris, that we so seldom see him in this direction? The new "Naval Pyrotechnic Laboratory" is just completed.

The main building is 104 feet in length and 25 in breadth, 18 feet high; the roof is handsomely ceiled with boards. Two other buildings 25 feet square, and of the same height, are also erected one at each end of the main building. It is intended to manufacture in this establishment all the percussion caps for carbines, fuses for shells and cannons, night signals, rockets, port fires, for the navy. It contains also a fine chemical apparatus, by which all the chemicals used are made on the spot. This department is under charge ef B.

F. Cos-ton, pyrotechnist, a young gentleman of acknowledged talent and high qualifications. He is assisted by Mr. Wm. H.

Myers, whose services may be considered invaluable. Our neighbor, Dr. Walsh, has made a considerable improvement; having taken possession of easy matter to raise thirty tons of iron from a mud hole, up a wall of ten or fifteen feet.
