Mrs. D. N. Cartledge and infant, and mother, Mrs. Elledge, have returned to their home in Tuscaloosa, after a visit to Mr.

and Mrs. Nat Cartledge. Mrs. Lewis King has returned from a few days visit to her father end sori at Fitzpatrick. Mrs, Snow Youngblood and children have returned to their home in Oklahoma after a two weeks vst to her parents, Mr.

Mid Mrs. John Alley. Miss Hattie Marshall Ford has returned to her home in Dothan, after a visit to relatives Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Norton have returned to South Caro lina, after a visit to his old home and parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Adams left last Monday for Eufaula and re turned Wednesday. Mr. Adams' many friends are glad to know Ae is improving.

Mrs. Jim Hitchcock -daughter, Mwts Louise, last week in Eufaula. and spent Mr. and Mrs. S.

T. Pruett and children spent Thursday Montgomery. in Mr. and Mrs. T.

R. Britt and Mr. and Mrs. S. T.

Pruett spent last Tuesday in Eufaula. Misses Josephine and Nettie Johnston of Three Notch, are the guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P. M.

Miss Nannie King is visiting her brother, Mr. Will King, at Mathews Station, after which she will visit in Montgomery; BULLOCK COUNTY ADU.LT SCHOOLS WILL CLOSE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER The bullock County Adult School for colored people will have their closing erercisea at their school in Union Springs en Friday, September 1st, be ginning at eleven o'clock. The following Adult Schools 'will le represented.

Ridgely, Pleasant Grove, Aberfoil, Sand Hill, Indian Creek, Post Oak, Miss Sara Lou Davis of Troy, and Virginia Hightower of Montgomery; been the guests of" Miss Erin Boyd. Miss Edna Hinton, of Mont gomery, is visiting her grand mother, Mrs. Anna -Boyd. Mr, Frank Jenkins and his mother returned to their in Montgomery Friday, night, after a short stay with relatives here. Mr.

Pritchett Auburn is at home with his parents untilthe fall term begins, when he will return to resume his studies for the ensuing year. Mr. i'and Mrs. Robert Tillman and family of Birmingham, are guests of Mr. and Mrs.

A. A. Cope and family. Mr. Clyde Kinard returned from Eufaula Saturday, where he had been for several days on business.

Mrs. Colon McRae is recovering from a short illness. Misses Mattie and Mary Beverly of Aberfoil, have been the guests of Miss Mary Beverly, Mr. and Mrs. Dewitte Brabham and little son spent last Sunday with Mrs.

Brabham 's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cope at Smut Eye. Mr. and Mrs.

C. H. West- brooke returned from Atlanta, Saturday night. Miss Nina Jenkins delightful ly entertained a few of her friends Thursday, night with a party, the home' of her grandr parents, where she is visiting. This was a farewell social for her brother, Frank, who was re turning home the next day.

Those who enjoyed Miss Jen-kin's hospitality were: Misses Frances Jenkins, Mattie Will Guthrie, Kathrine and Annie Lee Pritchett, Beuna and Bera Phillips; Messrs. Frank Jenkins, Buford Phillips, Joe Martin Guthrie. Misses Annie Lee and Kath rine Pritchett entertained a number of their young friends Friday night. At least, they did the entertaining wonderfully after the young people surpris ed them by making a nice visit about eight o'clock Friday night. Many interesting games were played on the large bright lighted porch, after which the crowd went serenading.

Those enjoying this unusual social were: Misses Annie Lee and Kathrine Pritchett, Cora Cog dell, Claire and Maxine McNair, Bera, Beuna and Mozelle Phil lips, Nina and Francis Jenkins, Tommie and Myra Cade, Messrs, Cecil McNair, Joe Martin Guth rie, and Buford Phillips. Several cars from here spent last week, on a camping party at Beck's Mill near Brundidsre Those in the party were: Mr. and Mrs. N. O.

Maxwell Jones and baby have returned to their home in Ozark, after a visit, to her mo ther, Mrs. Nina Parham. Misses Willie and Mildred Bishop, of Comer, spent Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Nat Cartledge.

Miss Alice Parham visited her Aunt, Mrs. M. S. Jones, in Un ion Springs, last week. Mrs.

Montgomery, of Birmingham, is the guesT of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Taylor.

Miss Evelyn King will leave Thursday for Tallassee, where rfie will teach. We Masonic Home Band from Wontjromery, stopped by here on their way to Clayton and TUnfau- 1. Thursday, and played a few pieces, which were much enjoy ed. A collection was taken up for them. Midway Public School will op en September 11th.

With the exception of Mrs. E. H. Orr and Miss Grace Swanson, the faculty is a ne one, all of whom come highly recommended. With this corps of teachers, it is believed that the ensuing year will be one of the very best.

Cotton is beginning to come in; borne or the fields are white with cotton. Both gins were kept pretty busy Saturday. Mrs. Mizelle, of Columbus, is the guest of her daugh ter, Mrs. George Thornton.

Miss Katie Belle Anthony has returned from a delightful visit of esveral weeks to friends and tatives in Florida and Ala bama. the City Schools of Montgomery will give a demonstration. This adult school is a part of the general program for the reduction of negro illiteracy in Bullock County. In 1909 there were 42 out of every hundred negroes unable to read or write in Bullock County. This number has been somewhat reduced since then and this work will continue.
