pstar Diary B2 Star-Tribune, Casper, Wyo. Sunday, December 29, 1991 Keeping poinsettias pretty after the holidays D. Read Margaret S. Ocall Charles WHEATLAND Services for Charles D. Read, 94, will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m.

at the Platte Funeral Chapel by Pastor Gordon Swedberg. Mr. Read died Dec. 26, 1991, at the Platte County Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born Oct.

6, 1 897, in Surprise, he was the son of Fred E. and Mary M. (Bruncr) Read. As a young boy he moved to western Nebraska with his parents, and was reared and received his education in Morrill, Neb. In 1917, he moved to a ranch southwest of Douglas.

On Dec. 5, 1923, he married Iole Campbell in Douglas. They moved to a farm three miles west of Wheatland in 1959. In 1969 they retired, and moved into Wheatland where he had remained until his death. He was a member of the Farm in and out.

In 1951, they moved to Thermopolis where they farmed four miles south of town. In 1969, Mrs. Beall moved to Mills to make her home with her daughter, Sarah Bolles. Mrs. Beall was a member of the First Baptist Church in Thermopolis.

In addition to her daughter of Mills, she is survived by two other daughters, Ruth Webb, Elk, and Mary Hailstone, Redmond, two sisters. Lucille Taylor, Central Valley, and Luella Myers, Neosho, 1 1 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, and seven sisters. Over the years, horticulturists have done an excellent job of improving poinsettias, and today we have many long-lasting varieties. To keep poinsettias fresh long after the holiday season, place them in the sunniest part of the room.

These plants need full daylight to ensure proper growth. Also, do not place the poinsettia in cold drafts or next to heating vents. Thoroughly water the poinsettia when needed. Geis CALENDAR CASPER Graveside services for Margaret S. Beall, 95, of Casper will be conduct at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Worland Cemetery by Rev. H.R. Kennedy of the First Assembly of God Church.

Mrs. Beall died Dec. 28, 1991, 'at Poplar Living Center, following an extended illness. She was born in Newton County, Missouri on May 3 1 1 896, the daughter of Henry and Allie (Gilmore) Beaver. She grew up in Missouri and received her education there.

In 1918, she moved to Basin, where she worked in the Markham House as a cook. On Feb. 2 1 1 9 1 9. she married Millard H. Beall at Basin.

They made their home at Manderson where they owned Manderson Coal, and she weighed customers William 6BilP PINE BLUFFS Services for William "Bill" Henry Harrison, 97, will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Pine Bluffs United Methodist Church by Revs. Jef- frey Babb and Warren Dirks. Mr. Harrison died Dec.

26, .1991, at the DePaul Hospital. He was born Oct. 29, 1894, in Dunbar, to Marshall Thomas and Martha Charlotte (Kruse) Harrison. He grew up and graduated from Dunbar High School and later attended the Nebraska State School of Agriculture. Mr.

Harrison coached and took teanf to the Nebraska State in 1916. He later moved with his family to Pine Bluffs in 1919 and purchased a farm in Kimball County southeast of Pine Bluffs. In 1924, he and his brother-in-law, A.E. "Pete" Carl-, strum, built the first gas station in J'ine Bluffs. On Nov.

27, 1924, he married Hazel Elizabeth Carlstrum in Pine Bluffs. Mr. Harrison served as mayor of Pine Bluffs, and served three terms in the Wyoming State Leg- islature. He was an active director in the Old Faithful Life Insurance Company. TEN SLEEP Services for Neil C. Geis, 63, of Worland will be conducted at 1 0:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ten Sleep Methodist Church by Rev. Richard C. Rash.

Mr. Geis died Dec. 27, 1991, from injuries sustained in a pickup wreck in the Wind River Canyon, south of Thermopolis. Born Aug. 2, 1928, at Big Trails, he was the son of Nick E.

and Hazel (Harvard) Geis. He was raised and educated in Ten Sleep. On Nov. 27, 1952, he married Beth Wain at Worland. lie worked for several ranches in the area before starting a lifelong career as a truck driver which began at the age of 15, hauling cattle for the family business, the Geis Trucking Company.

He became an independent trucker, hauling livestock, road oil, hay cubes, Jerome Hubert Lau Bureau. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, James Read of Douglas, Joanne Trumper, Tucson, and Donna Douglas of Wheatland; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mary Barbara Read, in 1954; one grandson, Tyler Douglas; three sisters, Beth Newell, Willa Plummer and Edna Johnson; and one brother, Frederic S. Read. Memorials to the Platte County Public Health Nurse Agency or the Service for Seniors in Wheatland would be equally appreciated by the family.

Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland, which is in charge of arrangements. and at the time of his death was under contract to the Deckert Bros, of Riverton to haul hay cubes. Mr. Geis enjoyed visiting with friends and attending rodeos.

He had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Besides his wife of Worland, he is survived by three daughters, Clytie Kranz of Worland, Ava Heiser and Mrs. Richard (Jeanette) Buelt, both of Casper; four brothers. Homer, Harold, Jerry and Lyle Geis, all of Worland; one sister, Mrs.

James (Jane) O'Conner, Vienna, and four grandchildren. Memorials to the Methodist Church would be appreciated by the family. Burial will be at the Ten Sleep Cemetery, with the Veile Mortuary of Worland in charge of arrangements. Knights of Columbus, 3rd and 4th degrees; American Legion George W. Vroman Post No.

Martinez serves aboard the Navy's nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, homeported in Alameda, Calif. The 1990 graduate of Rawlins High School joined the Navy in March 1991. 29, 1922 in Springfield, he was the son of Ed and Hilda (Kotten) Lau. A resident of Casper since 1947, Mr. Lau formerly was building superintendent for L.D. Liesinger Construction Co. His last major project was the Wyoming Medical Center's parking garage.
