star Letters A10 Star-Tribune, Casper, Wyo. Tuesday, August 14, 1990 From preceding page the most unsarcastic thing that I can say about Mr. Simpson is that he is to politics what doggerel is to poetry. And God bless you too, Al! F.R. OLVEDA Powell This letter was shortened.) The Heart, Lung, and Cancer associations and Department of Environmental Quality could put more weight into their message, if they could give more information about these cancer-causing chemicals and live the message themselves! We need to strengthen our immune systems in times like these.

OLETA THOMAS Casper (This letter was shortened.) have so many politicians making a career of their office, backed by large Eastern companies with huge contributions to these politicians. These politicians do not think their constituents have any intelligence. For just one example, take the cost of living allowance on senior citizen's Social Security checks. How many politicians ask the people if they are in favor of freezing COLA? Very few, if any when they are in office too many years, they become dictators. Every day you can read about graft and corruption in government and politics.

It's easy to see why the Americans don't vote any more. LOUIS BAZZANELLA Kemmerer quote, "The president, vice president and all civil officers of the United States shall be removed from office on impeachment for and conviction of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." Article I Section 3 paragraph six says "The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments." The Senate refuses to use this power which Article II Section 4 says they must do. They are required to keep the government clean but they refuse to do it. They are to blame for all of this mess and we must get them out. To do this we must get a different party or parties and get some decent candidates to vote for.

The Populist party is gaining power in many states. They are an old party. They can't be as bad as what we have. Time is getting short. Let's get busy.

Write to Populist Party, P.O. Box 1989, Ford City, PA 16226 to get information. H.A. NEUENSCHWANDER Powell (This letter was edited and shortened.) A lot of others helped make this garden a success. Meadow Acres Green House donated us a massive number of seedlings.

So did Coast-to-Coast, Johnny Appleseed, Hoods Landscaping and many others. The Roussalis Partnership, owners of the lot, were delighted to see garden begin to grow, too. The garden is really a show place. I can thank Calvin Rennick for that. He waters and weeds every day.

So far, we've had radishes, zucchini, spinach, leaf lettuce, peas, cherry tomatoes and hot peppers. We haven't had any large quantities, but we've started using what we do have in the food bank. It's really been rewarding to tell our clients that the fresh produce is from the garden. A lot of other people have helped make this garden a success. I wish that I could list everyone.

But, I don't even know the names of a lot of the people that have dropped of garden hoses and seeds. Besides, the newspaper people tell me that if my letters get too long, they start to cut them, anyway. So, I really want to thank everyone that has helped us in any way. The food we grow will be shared between the food pantries in Casper and given to low-income families. MARY ANN BUDENSKE Director Poverty Resistance Inc.

Casper says, "we have the right to keep and bear arms," and Article says, "no person shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law and arms are property." Article I says, "All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and Mouse of Representatives." This certainly deprives Bush of any power to make or legislate any law or legal order. So-called Sen. Ed Kennedy says that we no longer have a militia so the Second Amendment is no longer in force, but Article II Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution says, "The president shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and the militia of the several states." So this catches lying Teddy with his pants at half mast because he is as bad as Bush. One congressman said that a minor infraction of the Constitution is justified in order to get crime control.

Since they violated the Constitution about four times in passing the bill they committed four crimes in pretense of controlling crimes. Arms control is crime promotion, it makes crime safe. Without arms the people can no longer defend themselves and government will not nor cannot. If Article II gave us the right to bear arms when it was written, it still does because it is still on the book exactly the same as always and still carries the same force. You either do what it says or you violate it.

If the militia needed an armed public to back it up when Article II was written, as they seemed to believe, it needs it ten times as much now because the dangers from crime, dope peddlers, and gorilla war are that many times as great. How did we get into this terrible mess? Article 11 Section 4, I Will health groups fume or speak out? Editor: I admire the courage of those who are speaking out about the odiferous smells permeating our environment of late in Casper. We're all affected Amoco employees, employers, rich, poor; those who work night and day i shifts, senior citizens, babies, new mothers, etc. The air is polluted and even the smokers have the right to smoke in fresh air. The stench brings water to the eyes, the chests tighten, a choking sensation precipitates the already- there allergies.

These are toxic, poisonous gases that affect the I body in accumulative fashion. All toxins are poisonous and can be la-; beled carcinogenic or cancer causal They gather and settle in the soft tissues (kidneys, eyes, lungs) I of the body and sometimes appear as oozing sores on the skin as the body tries valiently to eliminate these toxic poisons. The chronic sinisitis, bronchitis, i headaches, depressions, digestive problems from constant worry, be- gin to show up when we realize we are becoming "unwell," so the 1 series of doctor visits begins where we get more toxic drugs and more chemicals, or we take an extra beer or sev eral cups of caffeine drinks to kill the pain for just a little while. The headaches are alleviated by over-the-counter drugs such as 't Excedrin which has 75 mg. of caf- feine drugs in one pill! Our bodies learn to tolerate just a little bit more poison.

Let a man make a living off a dead tree Editor: Mr Melnykovych is now an economist as well as an enviro. He has all the answers for the timber industry and how to cure the (fiat) unemployment it will run into in the near future. (Refers to Andrew Melnykovych's column, "Timber industry chops off workers, owl," July 4.) First, the issue of harvest of old growth forests or save the spotted owl you choose. This "ultimatum" is merely a tool to create more wilderness. There is a film out which Melnykovych evidently won't watch (or maybe hasn't even heard of).

It says the studies about the necessity for old growth forests to Continued on next page How does your garden grow, from a vacant lot Editor: I'm writing this letter to tell you about the garden that wasn't supposed to grow; the Community Garden at Wolcott and East Fifth Street. I've been wanting to plant a garden on that vacant lot ever since the Collins Hotel was torn down several years ago. Now, there are a lot of problems associated with trying to garden in Greater Downtown Casper. "You'll never be able to dig up the soil, there are too many rocks and old foundations," some said. "Assuming you can dig up the soil and haul off the rocks, nothing will grow anyway," others said.

"You don't have any money for seed, plants, garden supplies and water," still others said. All of these statements were true. But still, I thought that a garden was a good idea. Like other low-income people, 1 liked the idea of having some fresh vegetables this summer. But, 1 sure don't have enough money to buy a lot of fresh produce.

It was my idea to grow a big garden and put the produce in our food bank. Fortunately, there were others in our community that saw the vacant lot as an opportunity, not a lot of problems. Tom Heistad, the VISTA volunteer, thought that this was a dandy place for a garden. So did Chuck at Lathrop Feed who brought in some equipment to dig up the lot. Too many voters have already given up Editor: It is estimated that two-thirds of potential voters will stay home on election day.

People have lost faith in both Republican and Democratic parties. Very few senators and congressman from either party pay any attention to its citizens. Good candidates from either party do not have the money and backing to win an election. Money talks, and that's why we Elect party that will defend Constitution Editor: I read in the Powell Tribune issue July 19 that they expect 20,000 people to welcome so-called President Bush. In his campaign he said he wanted to go down in history as the president that defended our arms.

In less than four months he broke this promise. Even worse, he violated Article II of the U.S. Constitution which WYOMING RIGHT TO CHOOSE CANDIDATE SURVEY RESULTS The WYOMING RIGHT TO CHOOSE Political Action Committee urges you to consider candidates' abortion rights positions as you vote on AllflUil 21 and November 6. 1990.
