Joseph, church. The Rev. Mr. Klooze will become pastor of a merged congregation of three previous churches from two denominations in St. Joseph, effective Oct.

Planned Progress Visits Scheduled Mrs. Fred Meinershagen of the University of Missouri rural sociology department will visit 10 Mid-Missouri communities participating in the 1962 Planned Progress Program on Oct. 2-3, it was announced Saturday by Homer Ferguson, district manager of the Missouri Power and Light Co.

Improvement projects carried out by the various communities will be judged under six general categories: business and industry; residential development; public services and facilities; education and culture; health and recreation; Sunday, September 23, 1963 and general appearance and attractiveness Communities will also be judged on planning and participation by citizens and organiations. Towns will have at least an hour to show their progress and explain their accomplishments. In addi- tion, each will prepare a report scribing each of the projects completed. Reports are due December 5 and will be judged by a committee of professors from the University under direction of Robert L. McNamara, chairman of the rural sociology department.

Both wr.itten reports and comments by Mrs. Meinershagen will be considered in judging for cash awards. The schedule of community visits includes: Oct. 2--Hartsburg. 9 a.m.; Cedar City, 10:30 a.m.; New Bloomfield.

R. K. Maxwell Porter Takes Part Finishes Training ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. Major Robert K.

Maxwell of Roswell, N. in the picture above prepares to complete his annual firearms qualification during the encampment of the 8501th Air Force Reserve Recovery Group headquartered here. Major Maxwell, a United States Air Force fighter pilot, recently completed two weeks training with the group as a member of the Air Force Reserves. The major, a teacher at Roswell High School, is the son of Mrs. Ida B.

Maxwell of 210 Bender Drive, Jefferson City. A graduate of the University of Missouri, he is married to the former Virginia M. Shockley of 426 Union Jefferson City. In Swift Strike Army PFC Ronald G. Porter, son of Mr.

and Mrs. E. A. Porter, Cal- jifornia, recently participated with than 70,000 Army and Air jForce personnel in Exercise Swift Strike II, a two-week U. S.

Strike Command maneuver in North and South Carolina. Porter is a gunner in Company of the 101st Airbone Infantry's 187th Infantry which is regularly at Fort Campbell, Ky. He! 'entered the Army in August 1960 a completed basic training at Leonard Wood. He attended California High School. Sammy E.

Biftle Goes fo Thailand SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii (AHTNC) Army PFC Sammy E. Bittle. son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie E.

Bittle. Eugene, recently departed from Hawaii "with the 25th Division's 35th InTarHry for Thailand. Bittle is a member of the infantry's 1st Battle Group which relieved other 25th Division troops who have been in Thailand at the request of the Thai government since May. The battle group included support units of artillerymen, transportation and signal specialists, medical aidmen and combat engineers. A medical aidman in the group's Headquarters Company.

Bittle entered the Army in August I960. The 20-year-old solider is a 1960 graduate of Eugene High School. Maj. Hubbard Begins Training FORT LEAVENWOTH, Kan. -Army Maj.

George H. Hubbard II, 34, son of Douglas G. Hubbarci, Versailles, recently began the 38- week course at The Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Major Hubbard is one of 750 U. S.

and allied officers receiving instruction to qualify him for command and general staff duties at division, corps and field army level. The college, the Army's senior tactical school, was established 1881 as the School of Application of Infantry and Cavalry. The major is a 1950 graduate of U. S. Military Academy, West Point, N.

Y. A member of Sigma Chi fraternity, he also attended University of Missouri. Pvt. Jerry Coots Undergoes Training FORT RILEY, Kan. Army Pfc Jerry W.

Coots, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar J. Coots, New Bloomfield, is undergoing 17 days of amphibious training with other members of the 1st Infantry Division at Little Creek, Va. Coots is being trained in all phases of modern amphibious! warfare, including shipboard an orientation to life aboard shipl and a tactical landing exercise.

The training is scheduled to end Sept. 28. The 20-year-old soldier entered the Army in August 1961 and completed basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky. He is regularly assigned to Company of the 28th Infantry. Fort Riley, Kan.

Coots attended New Bloomfield High School and was employed by the Meadow Lake Country Club before entering the Army. Pvt. Norman Sewell Takes Repair Course FORT MONMOUTH, N. J. -Army Pvt.

Norman E. Sewell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall M. Sewell, Rolla, recently completed the 21-week fixed station transmitter repair course at The Signal School, Fort Monmouth, N.J.

The 22-year-old soldier is a 1957 graduate of Rolla High School and attended Florida Christian College in Tampa and Harding College in Searcy, Ark. He was employed by Radio Station KTTR in Rolla before entering the Army. His wife, Jo Ann, lives in Long Branch, N. J. On Leave Pfc.

Don Baldwin is home on a 15-day leave from Ft.
