KHLIPSBURG, Oct. conference of the count superintendent of schools Irom counties in western Montana was held Monday in the office of Mis Minnie Dlssctt, superintendent Granite county.

PASSES AT LIICSTON BOULDER, Oct. Word was received here Wednesday of the death of Harry Davidson, 52- year-old railroad engineer, who died at his home in Livingston. Mr. Davidson was well-known in this vicinity, having been reared in the lower Boulder valley.

He left here when a young man and had been in the employ of the Northern Pacific for the past several years. He had made his home in Livingston for sometime. Among the surviving relatives are his mother, Mrs. Ella Davidson, and a brother, Merritt Davidson, of the Lower Boulder valley, and his father, W. N.

Davidson of Boulder. Farewell Affair Is Enjoyed by Group CORVALLIS. Oct. Bernard Mellius, who is leaving shortly to enter the National Radio Institute at Los Angeles, was complimented Monday evening when a company of friends responded to the invitation of his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

PUSLEYFUNERfll SERVp HELD Rites Are Conducted at Ennis for Prominent Young Woman. TWIN BRIDGES, Oct. benefit dance will be held Saturday evening, Oct. 28, for Miss Doris Naranich, who was badly injured in an automobile accident here two months ago. Miss Naranich has been in the Murray hospital with an Injured spine ever since, but is slowly improving.

The dance supper will also be served in the schoolhouse. Mrs. John Seyler and Mrs. Lynn Comfort are in charge of the dance and the women of the community are co-operating to make it a success. Hostesses Present Pleasant Affairs WHITEHALL, Oct.

Louis Belangie moved from their home in Butte to Basin this week. Jeffers Man Is Oldest Montana Driver of Car JEFFERS, Oct. M. A. Switzer of Jeffers, who celebrated his eighty-seventh birthday Aug.

31, claims the distinction of being the oldest person in the state holding a car driver's permit. Besides driving abou the Madison valley. Mr. Switzer makes frequent trips to Bozeman and other cities. FILL IGIiTIES ME PLANNED III MEETING OF CORVALLIS, Oct.

An all-day meeting for Oct. 29 and a dinner for the Ravalli County Young People's association on Nov. 8 were two events planned by the United Aid society, which, met at the community house. Twenty-eight women were present. Some of them quilted on the lone- star quilt of Mrs.

Maurice Strange, others made rugs and a third committee distributed sewing for the Christmas bazaar. A four o'clock tea was served by Mrs. J. H. Collier, Mrs.

Cobb. Junior Club Gives Public Card Party WHITEHALL, Oct. The Junior Woman's club gave a public card'party at the gyhinasium Thursday night for the benefit of their treasury- Contract, auction and five hundred were played and lunch was served after the cards. Honors were distributed as follows: Contract, Mr. and Mrs.

Sim Haines; auction, Mrs. Lillie E. Cline and Mr. Hoover; five hundred, Mrs. Fred Tebay and R.

Owen McAllister. Lewis Krauss, Charles Armitage and Harold Stoltz. Mrs. Pasley wns born in Oregon November 12. 1905, and in 1910 came with her family to her father's old home near Jeffers, where she attended school.

She graduated from the Ennis high school in 1925 and attended business college in Tacoma. She wns married to Paul Pasley December 23. 1926. Two children, Robert Joseph. 7, and Martha Isa-" belle, 1, were born to the couple.

FUNERAL IS HELD FOP HAMILTON, Oct. Last rites for Bayard E. Harbert were conducted at the Masonic temple Monday afternoon, the Rev. J. C.

Irwin being in charge. Those to serve as pallbearers were C. H. Raymond. Charles Wagner, C.

W. Waddell, Taylor Centers, Walter Wilson and Dr. Bert C. Lee. Interment was in Rlvervlew cemetery.

Masonic plot. Mrs. Herbert's brother, J. D. Russ of Missoula, with members of his family, were here for the last rites.

THREE FORKS, Oct. Three Porks Mpsmlc, lodge entertained on Wednesday evening, the occasion being the twenty-fifth anniversary of the lodge. A banquet was served to 150 guests. The guests included Masons from Butte lodges, Whitehall. Jefferson Island.

Pony, Townsend, Manhattan, Belgrade and Bozeman. The program was in charge of the chairman, Paul Woodward, and consisted of a review of the lodge his-' ton' for the past 25 years by C. E. Sterling; a reading by Prof. Dahl, Masonic play, bv th 1 Butle lodges and music by the Butte Masonic chorus and quartet.

DILLON SOCIETY CAMAS PRAIRIE, Oct. Camas Prairie Woman's club met last Thursday at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Bauer. A paper by Mrs. A.

F. Sangor on the "Consumers' League," and an article by Mrs. S. Harris, entitled the "Romance of Bells" were features of the program. A handkerchief shower for Mrs.

F. C. Abel, a former president of the club, who is spending; a few weeks in California, added to the pleasure of the afternoon. POLSON, Oct. Lake county's new $50,000 courthouse and jail is Hearing completion.

A contract for decorating the interior of the building was let this week to Dave Munter and sons. It is thought that the building will be ready for use about Dec. 1. Program Enjoyed by Legion Women WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, Oct. Lester C.

C. Mrs. Rader gave a reading of the poem, "Your Flag and My Flag." Refreshments were served and the evening brought to a close with sev- populai dance numbers rendered by Mrs. Higgins and Mrs. Johnston.

SON IS BORN. VIRGINIA CITY, Oct. Calloway received the news of the birth of a son born early Sunday morning at the Dillon hospital. Mrs. Calloway will be remembered to 'her many friends as Miss Boone Rossiter of Sheridan.

MANHATTAN COUPLE HONORED ON GOLDEN WEDDING DATE MANHATTAN, Oct. golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Cobus was celebrated Wednesday evening at their country home, when they entertained 60 of their friends and neighbors. The occasion also celebrated the seventy-ninth birthday of Mrs.

A program of instrumental music was given by Mrs. A. Street and Leva Richardson and special numbers were sung by Billy, Harold and Ruth Amberson and by Frances Allison, Bertha Hespen and Anna Bryson. Out-of-town guests Included Mr. and Mrs.

DILLON, Oct. district convention of the Business and Professional Women's clubs will be held in Dillon next Sunday, Oct. 27, with members of the Dillon club as hostesses. Plans for the meeting are in the hands of a committee headed by Luella Stickney. A luncheon will be served and an interesting program is being prepared.

Sandvig and Miss Elizabeth Shotwell. Officers Named. The Christian Endeavor society of the Presbyterian church was organized Sunday evening. Miss Helen Buck was elected president; Miss Ruth Helen Albright, vice and Miss Marguerite Peterson, secretary and treasurer. Card Party.

The Dillon Girl Scout council gave its annual public card party at the St. James' guild hall Friday evening, with a large crowd in attendance. Legion Auxiliary. The American Legion auxiliary held its regular meeting at the city hall Monday night and a social session was enjoyed later at the home of Mrs. H.

M. Warner, with members of the publicity committee, Mrs. Warner, Mrs. T. E.

Gilbert, Mrs. W. J. Romersa and Mrs. Louis Schmittrolh, in charge.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, a daughter, a son, Raymond; her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Josephine Conn; two sisters, Mrs. Antone Smol of East Helena and Mrs.

Students Appear in Vocal Recital DRUMMOND, Oct. Pupils of Mrs! H. E. Shierson of Drummond presented their second vocal recital at the New Chicago church Thursday evening to a large audience. Those who sang solos were: Phyllis Wilcox, Lois Jensen, Alice Inabnit, Dorothy Watson, Helm Lewis, Ardene Wells and Ruth Parker.

Duets, trios and other group selections included Mildred Balzhiser, Caro Mae Cuthbert, Joyce and Jean Furman, Margaret Enman, Verna and Marjory Furman. In an outstanding costume feature of the evening the group sang a popular novelty number in three parts. BOULDER. Oct. 19.

WHITEHALL PASTOR AND WIFE FETED ON GOLDEN WEDDING WHITEHALL, Oct. The Christian church was the scene of a pretty golden wedding anniversary celebration Friday, when Whitehall citizens turned out to the number of several hundred to honor two of their citizens, the Rev. and Mrs. Owen J.

Gist who celebrated theft- golden wedding anniversary with open house throughout the day. The Ladies' aid of the church, together with the Pleasant Valley Ladies' Aid, sponsored the event and served refreshments throughout the afternoon and evening. In the afternoon a short program was rendered, consisting of piano selections by Mrs. Genevieve Patrick, an appropriate original poem by Mrs. J.

A. Mosier, two vocal solos by Miss Arlone Crane, self-accompanied, and a song composed and sung by one of the honor guests, Mr. Gist. In the evening a crowded house listened to another program as follows: Wedding march and entry of honored couple; repetition of afternoon's poem by Mrs. Mosier; a short address by the Rev.

J. A. Harrington, pastor of St. Theresa's church; selections by choir, "Silver Threads Among the Gold" and "Put on Your Old Gray address, the Rev. E.

H. Wendland, pastor of the Methodist church; vocal solos by Miss Mildred Vejtasse, "When You and I Were Young, Maggie" and "The Rosary," accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Martha Beamer; vocal so'o by Miss Arlone Crane, "The Old Church Choir," accompanied at the piano by Miss Aitna Glenn Patrick; solos by B. R. H. Shaffer, presenting the honored guests with a purse given by the community, responded to by Mr. Gist; closing with a benediction by the Rev. Allan Haldeman.

The church was decorated in yellow and gold, yellow chrysanthemums were presented from the Christian Ladies' Aid, and a beauty ful birthday cake, skillfully inscribed, was maue and given by Mrs. J. W. Lineberry. Mr.

Gist has served as pastor of the Christian church for the past 15 years. FLAG; BIBLE ALSO II HAMILTON. Oct. Hamilton Dost of Veterans of Foreign Wars received two notaule gifts at tno meeting Tuesday of the Woman's Belief Corps, in Odd Fellows' hall. The crops presented the post with a Bible, and an individual gift from Mrs.

J. P. McLain of Lolo was the old war-time flag which had been the property of her late husband, a CivU war veteran who died a few months ago. The veterans were represented by Donald Snow, C. J.

John Wharton Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hirschy and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jorgensen and daughter, Ellen Lyle, Mr.

and Mrs. Martin Jackson and Mrs. Edith Jorgensen. TOWNSEND TOWNSEND, The Townsend Woman's club held a guest meeting Monday evening. Mrs.

HARLOWTON, Oct. services were held here Tuesday for Jake Christensen, who was fatally burned in a fire at Fort Peck a week ago Thursday afternoon. The services were held at the Federated church with the Rev.

Virgil Foss of the Lutheran church officiating. Christenson, an ex-service man, died on his thirty-eighth birthday. He had resided in the Twodot vicinity, where he was engaged in ranching, practically all of his life. During the World war he served in the navy. He is survived by his mother, Mrs.

Gertrude Christensen, two brothers, John of Twodot and Charles of Big Timber, and twc sisters. Mrs. Haas of Twodot and Mrs. Adolph Thompson of Columbus. SILVER Ml DITECtpllTED Mr.

and Mrs. H. S. Armitage Honored on Anniversary of Marriage. WISDOM, Oct.

19. (Special) Mr. and Mrs. John Wharton were hosts last Saturday at a dinner given for Mr. and Mrs.

H. S. Armitage to celebrate their silver wedaipf anniversary. Seventy persons seated at tables decorated with miniature wedding cakes and flowers enjoyed a delightful menu A huge wedding cake formed the centerpiece of the main table, at which sat the Iride and bridegroom of 25 years ago, relatives and the hosts, who were also celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary. Mrs.

Armitage cut the cake and Mr. Armitage passed a generous portion to each of the guests. Little Ellen Lyle Jorgensen and Dick Hirschy, dressed as a. bride and bridegroom, presented the couple with a set of silver service for eight, a gift of the guests. This was followed by many other beautiful silver offerings from friends and relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Wharton were presented with a tin-dust pan as a token of their tin and with a pair of silver duck scissors. The presentation was followed by singing which began with Mr. and Mrs.

Armitage delighting the guests with "I Love You Truly." Cards were played during the remainder of the evening. Prizes went to Mrs. Martin Jackson, Mrs. Walter Jones, Mrs. Claud Anderson, Orval Corwin and C.

W. Francis. VIRGINIA CITY, Oct. the Virginia City Woman's club spent the day in En- nls at the County Federation meeting, with the Madison Valley Woman's club as hostess. The business meeting was held in the morning, lunch was served at noon by the Ladies' Aid and the program in the afternoon was on health and youth.

Jefferson post No. 24. American Legion, and Boulder unit of the auxiliary met at the Masonic temple Wednesday for the purpose of honoring two members of the post by awarding them the Order of the Purple Heart. This order was orignated by George Washington and was awarded by him to those of his soldiers wounded in action or whose military deeds merited special recognition. This order tlnued after the Revolutionary war but was revived in 1932 in honor of the military achievements of General Washington.

It is awarded all soldier? wounded In action prior to that date, The actual award was made by Earle N. Genzberger of Butte, state commander of the Legion, and the medals were received by Monte J. Forney of Whitehall and Carl W. McConnell of Clancy. The latter is a veteran of both the Spanish- American and the World wars and received his wounds in the Philippine Islands in 1899.

The state adjutant of the Legion, Herb Kibler of Helena, was present, and both he and the state commander spoke. A number of other guests from BuUe and Helena were present and a large delegation of members of the post were in attendance from Whitehall and Harrison..
