Blvd. 234-5831 www mm fsmiUHlt 1 1 u- Starts Friday Laramie County picks Democrats for Senate CHEYENNE Laramie County will have a solid four-member Democratic delegation to the Wyoming Senate in January while the county's House political lineup will remain unchanged at six Democrats and three Republicans. And Laramie County will have a House Speaker for the first time since 1925. Republican Rep. Bill Mcllvain squeezed in for his ninth term by running last for the county's nine House seats.

Final unofficial election returns show the two Democratic candidates for the state Senate, Rep. Harriett Elizabeth (Liz) Byrd and newcomer James Applegate, captured the two seats up for election this year. Byrd, a 62-year-old retired Cheyenne teacher who served eight years in the House, and Applegate, a 57-year-old Cheyenne lawyer, outpoll-ed Republicans John Clay, a 65-year-old stockbroker, and Richard Baker, 58, president of the Wyoming Student Loan Corp. Byrd led the ballot with 15,122 votes, followed by Applegate, 13,878, while Clay polled 12,881 and Baker trailed with 10,821. Byrd and Applegate will replace Republican Sen.

Richard Larson, a potato farmer from Albin who chose not to seek re-election this year, and Democratic Sen. Alvin Wiederspahn, who was edged out by Applegate in the August primary election. Byrd and Applegate will join Democratic Sens. Win Hickey and J. W.

(Jim) Norris, both of Cheyenne, who were not up for re-elec- tion this year. The Laramie County delegation to the Wyoming House will remain at six Democrats and three Republicans but two of the Democrats will be newcomers. Voters re-elected all Laramie County House incumbents, plus non-incumbent Democrats Don Sullivan and Carol Watson. Sullivan, a Cheyenne lawyer who came in second in his first political race, and Watson will replace Byrd and Democratic Rep. Lynn Birlelfi, who lost the Cheyenne mayor's race in a Tuesday night.

Leading the ballot was Democratic Rep. Guy Cameron with 16,137 votes, followed by Sullivan, Kepublican Rep.
