Of course there must be a man appointed to take the place of local inspector of steamtoals. Joe Cook, who was recently appointed to till the vacancy caused by the retirement ot Captain P. J. Kalpb. late supervising Inspector.

Now. this appointment "belongs, as the politicians say. to three men. Judge Brown, or the United States Court; Collector Diirby V. Ball, and Supervising Inspector Oook.

The latter has so more to say about the matter than either of tbe others, but they cannot force a local inspector on him. nor can anv ode else. Cook hat bis eye oh several men that would fcegood inspectors, one in particular being Mr. Isaac B. Hewitt.
