You wouldn't want to poke fun at the grandaddy of trash sports. Pro wrestling does a good job of that itself. I always got a kick out of people who take professional wrestling seriously. Ah, my one chance to get back at grandma for making me watch the Executioner take on Mr. Fuji one Super Bowl Sunday. But there they were. Some 2,600 fans screaming their guts out for their heroes and showering the villains with boos. It's now the regular schedule at the other two NYRA tracks, Aqueduct and Belmont. About two dozen horses were on the grounds Wednesday but only a few were out on the beautifully prepared main track for early morning workouts.

Activity was picking up, however, as vans carrying horses from Belmont were pulling into the track throughout the day. The backstretch kitchen opened for the season early Wednesday. By 7 a.m. grooms, hotwalkerf and assistant trainers were having breakfast on its famed screen porch. One of the -stables 1 arriving early was that of Herbert Allen.
