Wheat continues scarce and he dders are very firm. Small sales of prime Genesee are making nt Ssl II; red Ohio at "0, and inferior "Western at SI 10 per bushel. Mngrwhrr Ertenaive Rob- hery Health of Mrs. Folk, frc The southern mail having arrived, 1 send you a summary of such news as I find in the papers. At New Orleans, on the evening of the 7th the schooner Florida.

Passengers report that a portion of Cushing's brigade arrived nt Brazos on the 23d, and that the remainder were ex- It BALTIMORE, SATURDAY, OCTOBER in, 1R17 Withholding tiie New Crop. The complaint is very general upon the sea board ami at all the usual depots of breadstuffs upon the forwarding routes, that Ihe new crop is withheld in every direction; and that the amount which has appeared up to lite pre sent time in the current year, is so much less than that of the corresponding period lust year, as to give cause for the apprehension of convulsions in the trade which it is very desirable to avoid. This fact is course, easilv to be traced to its cause.

The hiijh nominal prices of last spring and summer have be yond question suggested to our farmers a stroke of practical policv, in which they cannot tail to be tlis appointed in their expectations, if indeed they do not litterally rue such an irrational Admitting that this is the true cause of the manifest reiuclauce to forward the crop, we hope that it will be duly re considered for the common benefit of both the pro dueer and the consumer. At the present moment there exists none of those causes for like events whieh prevailed last year, and it is therefore absurd to act under an expectation that the same prices can possibly obtain. Moreover, the prostration which the monetary world is now suffer ing in Kurope, and which we must feel in a greater or less degree, is itself a direct and incontrovertible evidence of the expanded system under which the transactions in tne trade were, throughout a great part of the season, conducted The business was, in half its character, at least, artificial and unsubstantial. The true policy, we apprehend, for the farmer, is, now while prices are real, and about equivalent to the de jnand, to realize, by the steady and gradual advance of his crop to market; a fair remunerating price will thus be maintained, probably, throughout the entire season But to hold back now, will have the effect undoubtedly to elevate the price, and then as soon as the price proves attractive, the result will be a glut in Ihe market, or the choking up of the avenues of transpor tation. It is to be hoped that while the agriculturists of the Atlantic slope are holding luck, with the expectation of commanding the high prices of the anticipated win ter rise, that those ot the midthe Mates wul avail themselves of the present opportunity to forward the crop.

Facilities for storage, at extremely low rates, have been provided in New' York for the western farmers, and there seems to be a growing disposition on their part to use them, and thus to secure an equal chance for the fluctuations of the market with our eastern agriculturists. Storage, at moderate rates should also be ottered in Baltimore, and pressed upon the attention of farmers, so that any, either exst or west of the Aik-ghanies, disposed to avail themselves of it, may be more induced to do so. It is by such means only that speculation will be thwarted in it: designs, the steadiness of the market maintained, a collapse and panic be avoided, and the general inter cstsof the whole community be effectually subserved.
