DANINI BURRIS Inter Like amily Editor BIGORK Whether it's winter weavings wall hangings rya rugs or just the old log buildings which encompass the area the annual open house of Jack and Ruth cabin and Loom Home is bound to in terest young and old alike Ruth has been an avid weaver since 1948 and last year decided to start an annual tradition of showing her work during an open house Today lathead Val ley residents will be able to participate in the second open house from 2 6 pm at their cabin and Loom House located at 1235 Swan River Road east of Bigfork A tour through the various buildings emphasize the talent which Ruth has acquired through the years The Loom House is filled with Mexican tapestry' pillows wall hangings with peacock feathers and rugs woven with an old knotting technique used by the Scandina vians called A two harness floor loom used for rugs and various other weavings occupies another room Other buildings include a guest house which is decorated with curtains a bedspread and various bags which are created from bright orange and yellow fibers The tour concludes in the main cabin where Ruth and Jack live The cabin is rustic with original log walls a wood burning stove and of course the beautiful effect of Ruth's weavings which highlight the floors and walls Also in the cabin is a four harness floor loom which has the memories of weavings which Ruth has made during thousands of hours at the loom The area surrounding the buildings is as beautiful r' 111 social scene Parents of seniors meet Parents of senior students of lathead High School will meet at 7:30 in Wednesday in the conference room of lathead High School Parents should enter the building from the east side door to the main office Purpose of the meeting is to organize the senor party which will take place after graduation as Ruth's weavings with huge trees flowers and the Swan River which flows gently along their property Even though the Whites have owned their home since 1940 they have only actually been able to reside in the valley for seven years Two years after purchas ing the land they moved south so Jack could work for the orest Service rom 1942 until 1972 they rented the house and made trips to Montana every three or four years to check on the place During the 30 year period the house deteriorated and when they moved back in 1972 it was necessary for the Whites to completely restore the buildings The restoration wont well and now the Whites live comfortably in the location where they always wanted to be They portray their happiness now by inviting The Newcomers Club will have a potluck luncheon at 1 pm Tuesday at Elaine home 770 4th Ave WN Being only a week away the 1977 lathead County March of Dimes Walkathon is gaining momentum "The response we have had especially in the schools has been tremendous" says chairman Diane Slobojan The 15 inile trek will begin at 8 am Saturday at the National Guard Armory in Kalispell Any walker still on the route at 5 pm will be picked up and brought to the armory by the Crossroads CB Club who is help ing with the march The County Parks Department and the National Guard also will assist and nurses from the Kalispell Regional Hospital and the Licensed Practical Nurses course at lathead Valley Community College will be stationed at each checkpoint Lunch will be served at oy's Lake Several businesses in the area are sponsoring walkers and some of these are going as a group like the employes of the Coors Brewery Larry O'Neil and a group of other area walk runners will be covering the route or students from lathead High School a half a day off from classes awaits the class with the greatest number of participants in the Walkathon Kalispell Mayor Norma Happ has proclaimed May 7 as Walkathon Day and urges Kalispell residents to walk or sponsor a walker The mayor will give a send off speech to the walkers at the beginning of the trek at the armory only do prizes await the walkers at the finish" says Mrs Slobojan also the knowledge that they have helped fight the battle against birth defects This will be the last regular monthly meeting of the Newcomers until September All new
