Puckett to Speak. The second address of Wednesday will be delivered by E.

W. Puckett, president of the Fort Wayne Oil Supply company. His subject will be, "Making Salespeople Efficient." This subject is probably of greater interest to more members of the association than any ot.her, and the discussion will undoubtedly develop many Instructive and interesting features. As head of one of Fort Wayne's most progresive business houses. Mr.

Puckett Is well qualified to expound on this important subject. Other members of the Port Wayne delegation will also speak at the different sessions of the convention on sub- perklns -Colby statement followed the committee's action last night in naming a vlce-charman in designating Washington as a permanent headquarters filling: a vacancy of the District of Columbia and appointing a sub-committee of three to pass on aU matters of publicity, finance and Tense, later naming itself as a committee to select 'such progressive-republicans, according to the Perkns-Colby statement "as it desired to have associated with as a campaign commit- AU hesc th i nss the statement says today 'were wlfully and defiantly done In spite of the fact that Mr. Hays the republican state chairman of Indiana! had taken word to Mr. Hemenway. the leader of the group, insisting upon this arbitrary action that if the contemplated action was taken we would have nothing to do with such an impotent ar VLF ow less committee.

Joseph M. Rouwey ct al. to Wind-Id L. various measures at the convention were completed at the meeting of the Commercial club last excnlng. To Advocate Garnishee Law.

The local delegates will energetically advocate the passage of a garnishee law. They will be ably seconded by the Indianapolis delegation in their work for this measure, as is vouchsafed in a letter from the Indianapolis Business Men's association, which was read last night by Secretary Harry Kennerk. L. E. Heiney, one of the most active members of the association, stated last night that the measure should be explained to the federation of labor as they would approve of It were they enlightened on the subject and shown how business men are compelled to charge the losses from his dead accounts to their paying customers and consider it a part of their operating expenses.

Mr. Helny also expressed himself very vehemently on the trading stamp proposition. He asserted it was a "graft" and that "customers are made to believe that they arc getting something for nothing." At the present time there a trading stamp concern lobbying in ihe effort to have the legislature to relinquish the ban that has Jbeen In effect on this -'Industry, since the passage of a law affecting It several years ago. Daylight Saving Movement. The daylight saving movement explained In an interesting and Instructive manner last night by R.

w. Smith. He Mated that the adoption of the daylight saving scheme would result in a saving of 30 per cent In the cost of artificial illumination. He also stated that there was a higher ideal to be attained In this proposition than the pecuniary advantage and quoted Sir William Ramsey, a scientist of International renown as his authority, that the general health of the people would be far better, and that It would save the eyes-of thousands of persons. If the daylight swing proposition were adopted.

The O.iylight saving committee will of the committee, Messrs. Hert, Kentucky; Howell, Nebraska; Parsons, New York; and Chairman Willcox, had protested and after a motion by these gentlemen to refer the selection of a vice-chairman to the national committee itself had been voted down. "The election of a vice-chairman by the executive committee is without precedent. Hitherto the vice-chairman has always been appointed by the chairman. The selection of a vice- chairman immediately after the national election, when no vice-chairman was appointed before election, the forcing of the appointment to an issue over the protest of the Chairman a.at three members of the committee and the refusal to allow the national com mittee itself to pass on the appointment were for a distinct purpose." Purpose Waa Two-Fold.

The purpose was two-fold. First, these men wished to keep the control of the machinery of the republican party. Present and prospective, in the hands of their own little coterie Sec? TM hCd to tehift the respon- for Mr. Hughes' defeat from their own shoulders, where it rightfully belonged, to the shoulders of Mr. 11ICOU.

-i "These men took no chances. They proposed to see that a vice-chairman of their own selection was installed that the permanent headquarters were to be in the city which, best served their personal purposes, that thev could control the publicity and finances of the party and that the vacancv In the district of Columbia was filled, in fact that everything of Importance that was to be done should be done before the question of a campaign committee' was considered. "In other words, they performed every act they could think of to button up as tightly as possible In the hands of their own little clique the entire orpnlzation of the party llm Hemenway a Ring Leader. The men who did this were Hemenway of Indiana leader of the coterie: Martin, of Virginia; Estabrook, of New Hampshire, who. were members of tho executive committee and cx- Qovernor Gillette, of California, holding the proxy of executive committee' men Crocker, of California; Mr.

McArthur. of Oregon, with tte proxy of Executive Commltteeman Williams of Oregon, and Lafe Oleason. of New TorK; voting the proxy of Executive Commltteeman ington. Vrfiiaii Willcox and charging him -with responsibility for having lost the national election, whereas they themselves solely and wholly responsible for the defeat of Mr. Hughes.

Mr. Crocker is notoriously responsible for the loss of California, Mr. Sam Perkins, by his short sighted and stupid management of affairs in the state of Washington, lost that state to Mr Hughes. "These men, in yesterday's meeting by slighting Chairman WIllcox, toy attempting to shear him of his power endeavored so to humiliate him as to force his resignation and allow their man to assume the chali mansWp." Pays Tribute to Willoox. Perkins and Colby paid glowing compliment to Willcox in his "difficult' position as chairman and his success in attracting progressives The real reason for the opposition of these men," the statement continued, referring to the "coterie" again, to Chairman Willcox, is the fact that ne nas tried every way to liberal-, use the republican party and make it I responsive to the wishes of the rank and file of the party.

These very men know only too well that if Chairman Willcox succeeded in his endeavors they would be shorn of power. Install Officers. Captain James B. White camp, Sons of Veterans, started off the present year with a very Interesting session and installed the following officers: W. F.
