(UPI) -Sophomore Larry Shields scored two touchdowns Saturday, one on a 65-yard punt return, to lead sixth-ranked Oklahoma to 13-3 victory over Missouri. The victory, Oklahoma's fifth without defeat in the Big Eight conference, set the stage for next week's championship meeting between Oklahoma and undefeated Nebraska. Shields, a halfback, put Oklahoma into the lead in the early minutes of the game when he caught a punt on the 35-yard line and raced down the sidelines for a touchdown. He scored the second touchdown from the two-yard line lafe in the fourth period.

Adds Conversion George Jarman kicked the extra point after Shields' second touchdown. He missed the conversion attempt in the first period. Missouri's lone score, its first against Oklahoma since 1960, came late in the second period on a 43-yard field goal by Bill Leistritz. Missouri, which has not beat-ten Oklahoma here since 1945, had an opportunity to take the lead in the second period after recovering a fumble on the Oklahoma 34-yard line. Missouri drove to the Oklahoma seven but then lost possession on a fumble of its own.

Oklahoma twice drove to the Missouri seven-yard line in the first half but was unable to score. In the first period, a fumble by Oklahoma stopped the drive. In the second period, HEADING GOAL WARD: Larry Shields (35) of Oklahoma wades through several Missouri players and is headed goalward for the Sooners' first touchdown. Leaping for Shields is Vince Turner (45) of the Tigers, but it was to no avail as Shields scampered 64 yards with a Missouri punt to give Oklahoma a 6-0 lead. Oklahoma went on to win 13-3 (UPI Telephoto).

SAAU Malts Arkansas Missouri, now 4-2 in the conference, may have lost a bowl invitation with the defeat. Scouts from the Blue Bonnet Bowl in Houston watched the game. Seek Bowl Berth The victory, the eighth for Nebraska in nine games, kept the Cornhuskers unbeaten in Big Eight play and set the stage for next Saturday's game with Oklahoma to determine an Orange Bowl berth. Miller passed four yards to Jeff Williams to pull Oklahoma State, which has won only once in eight games, to within four points of the two-touchdown favorite. But less than a minute remained and Nebraska ran out the clock. Nebraska, boasting the best running game in the nation, put together two long scoring drives in the second quarter. Fullback Joe McNulty banged over from the two for the first score with stitute fullback Steve Murphy leading the way, jolted the Buckeyes with a 10-point second period and clinched it with another touchdown in the fourth period set up on a pass interception.

It was a dismal day for Ohio State and Coach Woody Hayes in more ways than one. An airplane circled overhead bearing a trailer reading "Goodbye Woody" as the Bucks went down to their worst season since 1959. Ohio now has four victories, three losses and a tie as it goes into its final game against Michigan at Ann Arbor next Saturday. Myers, mixing the Northwestern offense with the touch of a magician, set up the Wildcats' field goal and first touchdown drive with his passes and then settled down to a running game in the second half before 83,988 fans. Murphy, 201 pound junior from Peoria, scored both Northwestern touchdowns.

He ran 1G yards on a draw play when Myers had the Buckeyes looking for a pass with 2:08 left in the first half and smashed over from eight yards out in the final period with the clincher. SMU's touchdowns came on a five-yard Tommy Caughran-to-Bill Harlan pass in the first quarter and on soph quarterback Mac White's one yard sneak in the third quarter, but each time Jernigan, also a sophomore, had helped set up the scoring plays. Arkansas capitalized on a break on the opening play of the game the kickoff and went on to march 47 yards to score on a one-yard sneak by Fred Marshall, utilizing ground power exclusively. That was the last time, the Razorback ground game ever clicked in the face of the stunting SMU defenders.

The Razorbacks did march 78 yards down to the SMU two-yard line in the second quarter on Marshall's passes to Jerry Lamb and Stan Sparks, but there SMU stiffened and the Santa Says: "I'm just going to wait till opens on Thursday, then I'm going DALLAS (UPI) Statistics of ttie Arkan-tas Southern Methodist football game: SMU Arkamai First downs Rushing yardagt Passing yardagt Passes Passes Intercepted by Punts Fumbles lost fards penalized 12 U2 56 S-7 1 43 1 to 10 ee 73 7-IS 0 5 42 i 0 27 The second SMU touchdown came on a break just about their only one of the afternoon in the opening minutes of the third period when a bad snap-back caused Arkansas punter Tommy Moore to be tackled on his own 10-yard line. After Oklahoma State's Charles Durkee 30 -yard field goal to make it 7-3, Nebraska came back to march 70 yards and score, with Duda scooting the final eighty yards.

Nebraska made it 20-3 in the third quarter when the Cornhuskers put together a 73-yard, seven-minute drive that ended with halfback Maynard Schmidt going over from the three. First Touchdown Oklahoma State then began moving with Miller hitting well on his passes and fullback George Thomas picking up vital yardage. Thomas capped a 77-yard drive when he sped over left guard for seven yards and the first Oklahoma State touchdown. Oklahoma Stae defenders swarmed all over Duda on the next two series of downs, and Nebraska had to punt each time. The Cowboys took the second punt and drove for their final touchdown.

The Atlantic Coast Conference game was billed as a test of Maryland's offense against Clemson's defense.

The touch defenders persistently halted Maryland drives. It was the first time this season that Shiner, one of the nation's top passers, was successfully stymied on scoring. Minnesota Stopped by Purdue, 13-11 LAFAYETTE, Ind. (UPI) -Purdue's inept ground game, helped along by Minnesota fumbles and errant field goal kicking sputtered to a 13-11 Big Ten football triumph over the Gophers before nearly 39,000 fans Saturday. The victory snapped a two-game losing string for the Boilermakers giving them a 4-4 season record while Minnesota absorbed its sixth loss, third in a row against two victories.

All the scoring occurred during the first half and Purdue got its two touchdowns in the initial period, then hung in for its narrow victory as fullback Mick Reid missed four field goal attempts. Gordon Teter, a safety man, electrified the crowd in 56-de-gree weather, when he returned a kickoff 88 yards for Purdue's first score, after Reid booted a 33-yard field goal to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead in the opening minutes. Then Nat Jackson fell on Larry Peterson's fumble, one of three bobbles by the Gophers Saturday, on the Minnesota 47 and Purdue scored again in nine plays. Quarterback Ron Di Gravio set the score up with a 10-yard pass to Gene Donaldson and his 19-yard run to the one yard line. Di Gravio then plunged for the score.

The unhappy Buckeye fan apparently was disgusted with the Buckeyes season which showed 4 victories, 2 losses and a tie, going into the game with Northwestern. The sign referred to Buckeye Coach Woody Hayes, who in his 13 years at Ohio Stale has directed his team to 82 victories against 28 losses and 7 ties prior to the Northwestern game. Ohio State trailed Northwestern 1 when the plane first flew high above the horseshoe stadium during the half time intermission.

The anti Hayes sentiment was the first here in a number of years. The Buckeye coach was named coach of the year in 1957. He has won four Big Ten championships and his teams set a Big Ten record by winning 17 consecutive Big Ten games in 1954 through 1956. RlSLOM COLD OUR LEASE IS UP!
