14. Resolutions eulogizing the, late Joseph M. first United States attorney for the Territory of Wyoming and later a justice on the Territorial supreme bench) spread on the record of the Wyoming Supreme court Wednesday. The resolutions were drawn by Hugo Donzelman. Thomas Hunter and Campbell, members of the bar assigned to their preparation.

They follow: "The committee appointed' by this Honorable Court to draft and present proper resolutions In respect of the Honorable Joseph M. Carey, who died on the 5th day of February, A. D. 1924, at the place of his residence in Cheyenne. Wyoming, begs to report the following resolution: "The State has already given homage in a public way, to his work and to his memory.

Nevertheless, it Is proper that the bench and the bar cf the state pay him a special tribute. It was with these that he was first identified when he came to the then "recently organized territory of Wyoming. That he did not continue actively to follow his ehosen profession is accounted for by the fact -that the people opened for him it wider field of service, public and private. "He was appointed by President Grant as United States attorney for Wyoming In the year 1869. He filled this position with credit to himself and with honor to the appointing power until 1872, when he was appointed by the same president, as associate justice of the Supreme court of the Territory.

This office he efficiently filled until 1876. His career upon the bench was an exemplification of the administration of the principles of justice and equity. He weighed all questions presented to him conscientiously and fearlessly. The first and paramount consideration with him was 'What Is right?" He was a man of unsullied reputation and spotless character. As a lawyer he stood for the ideals of his profession.

As a Judge he upheld the highest traditions of the bench. "Almost 50 years have come and gone since his voice has been heard in the courtroom; or since he was called upon to reconcile men's differences, as a Judge. But the passage of half a century has not lessened the importance or the value of his work or dimmed the lustre of his splendid character.
