This did much to offset Wyoming's edge in yards gained by rushing, 197 to 117. Larry Zowada, Wyoming's back-field ace got off one punt for 63 yards which dropped dead on the BYU 6, but couldn't do anything with his passes. LOS ANGELES UP) The widespread epidemic of football upsets hit here Saturday afternoon when under-rated UCLA rudely blasted Oregon State from the ranks of the nation's unbeaten teams. The local Bruins, who can't play seniors, drubbed the defending Pacific Coast Conference champions by an astonishing score of 26-7.

The skies were dark and gloomy but this was a bright occasion for most of the 46,102 fans. Oregon State went into the game ranked No 7 in the weekly ratings and was solidly favored to win its fifth straight game. UCLA, loser to Oregon in its lone defeat but holding a sparkling victory over Illinois, took the opening kickoff and paraded by land and air 67 yards for a touchdown. Coach Red Sanders Bruins put on another 49-yard thrust in the second quarter for a 13-0 halftime lead, and that, to all intents, was seemed the game would continue as a procession of Navy touchdowns. The Georgians came back with renewed vigor after the half, however, and after stopping the initial Navy attack and getting the ball on a punt on their 24, marched manfully 76 yards.

The fourth period was barely under way when Carl Manning recovered Alasdair Swanson's fumble on the Navy 49. The Bulldogs advanced to the three and from there Tommy Lewis skipped unmolested around the right end. The score was the largest turned in by a Woody Hayes cofebed team in his seven years here. Hayes flooded the field with 57 plsyers, but all the combinations scored as the Bucks went for two touchdowns in the opening period, three in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth, and added a 23-yard field goal to add to the rout.

Calif. Lf California's victory-starved Bears turned an opening kickoff fumble into a touchdown Saturday, paving the way to a 12-0 victory over winless Southern California in a rough Pacific Coast Conference game. A crowd of 40,000 in Cal's Memorial Stadium watched the Bears capture their first game for new Coach Pete Elliott and leave USC's Don Clark still seeking his initial victory. Jack Hart plunged 2 yards for the first touchdown before the game was 3 minutes old. Darrell Roberts hurdled the final yard for the other touchdown early in the third period.

That capped a 73-yard drive, longest sustained march for the Bears this year. Hart tallied just six plays after USCs Don Buford fumbled the opening kickoff on being tackled at the 18 by Cal's 210-pound end Ron Wheatcroft who had booted the ball. Mike White recovered for the Bears. Cal left for the halftime with a 6-0 lead and returned to take the k.ckoff and stage its long drive.
