Monday, October 16, 2000 The Post-Star, Glens Falls, N. Y. B5. OBITUARIES Helen Ostrander Call Stalker GLENS FALLS Helen Ostrander Call Stalker, 92, of Traver Street, Glens Falls and lately of Eden Park Nursing Home, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000.

Helen was born in Ticonderoga, in May 1908, the daughter of Joseph and Nellie (Mason) Ostrander and lived most of her life in Glens Falls. She was an active member of Christ Church Methodist on Bay Street throughout her life. Helen worked for Things Shoe Store, The Fashion Store and The Flair for many years and spoke often of the splendid way she was 1 treated as an employee in each establishment. Her leisure time was spent traveling, visiting with her many friends, lunching at Youngs Chinese Restaurant and enjoying dinners at Howard Johnson, picnics, playing cards and telephone conversations. She also belonged to the Glens Falls Senior Citizens and enjoyed their many activities and trips.

On Traver Street and in the neighborhood, Helen was noted for her open door to all the neighborhood pets. She enjoyed feeding the cats, dogs and birds that found their way to her back porch, and the animal grapevine was extensive. Helen was predeceased by her parents and her husbands, Leonard Call and Henry Stalker; two brothers, Harold and Hanford Ostrander and their spouses; and several cousins, aunts and uncles. Survivors include her stepdaughters, Mrs. Vernon (Carol) Galusha of Warrensburg and Mrs.

Nelson (Bonnie) Salisbury of Saratoga Springs; eight step-grandchildren, Dennis Burch of Tampa, Joseph Burch of Blairsville, Ga. Adam Burch Glens Falls, Peggy Grothe of Clovis, Charles Glenn Grothe of Greenbay, Michelle Smith of St. Petersburgh, Preston and Robert Salisbury of Schenectady; numerous step-greatgrandchildren; one nephew, Donald Ostrander and his wife Wanda of Ochachobee, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family suggests memorials be made to Christ Church Methodist, Bay Street, Glens Falls or Juvenile Diabetes Association, in Helen's name, in lieu of flowers. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.

tonight, Oct. 16, at Regan and Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home with Pastor Dawn Robbins Wood of Warrensburg First United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at Union Cemetery in Fort Edward at the convenience of the family.

Frances E. Butterfield SARATOGA SPRINGS Frances E. Butterfield of Jordon Drive, Saratoga Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at her home. She was 59.

Born on Jan. 6, 1941, in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Francis Duffney and Gertrude Bennett Duffney. Mrs. Butterfield married her husband, Howard J. Butterfield, on Nov.

21, 1959. She was a homemaker and enjoyed bingo, shopping and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is predeceased by a son, Joseph Howard Butterfield. Survivors include her husband Howard, two daughters, Marcia A. Little and her husband Gary of Stillwater and Kimberly A.

Schaff and her husband Brian M. of Queensbury; four brothers, Donald Duffney of Milton, Joseph Duffney and Brad Duffney, both of Saratoga Springs, and Elliot Duffney of Rochester; four sisters, Gwendolyn Delaurie of Rock City Falls, Nancy Carleton of Victory Mills, Sharon Wood of Lake Luzerne and Amber Duffney of Nashville, five grandchildren, Joshua Schaff, Alyssa Schaff, Haley Schaff, Brent Little and Arthur Little; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Saratoga Springs.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to American Heart Association Northeast Region, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205-3890. Loretta C. Connor GANSEVOORT Loretta C.

Connor, 66, a resident of West River Road, died early Sunday, Oct.15, 2000, at her home. Born Dec. 16, 1933, in Lockport, she was the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Burke) Ward. Loretta was a graduate of Canisius College with a degree in nursing and had been a registered nurse at the Glens Falls Hospital for 37 years. She had been a communicant of St.

Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls. Survivors include her husband, William H. Connor of Gansevoort; two sons, William O'Connell of Greenfield Center and James O'Connell of Glens Falls; four daughters, Maureen Webb of Barrington, R.I., Births reported from Glens Falls Hospital include the following: A son, Konrad Spencer, to Dirk and Stefanie BEESE of Glens Falls, Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at 5:17 p.m., 8 pounds 3 ounces, 20 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Margarethe and Bernhard Bartmann of Munstu, Germany.

Paternal grandparents are Susi and Werner Beese of Geseke, Germany. A son, Harrison John, to John and Mary GEREAU of Schroon Lake, Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at 10:16 p.m., 8 pounds 14 ounces, 21 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Mary Pelkey of Schroon Lake and the late Frank Pelkey. Paternal grandparents are Jeanne B.

Gereau of Lake Luzerne and Leonard A. Gereau of Moneta, Va. A son, David Michael, to Timothy and Jane HAVENS of Kingsbury, Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at 8:15 a.m., 7 pounds 11.4 ounces, 19 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Glen and Mary Lou Greenough of Ticonderoga.

Paternal grandparents are Diamond Havens of Glens Falls and Marshall Havens of Hudson Falls. A daughter, Corrin Nicole, to Fred and Nicole FISH of Argyle, Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at 3:05 Otto C. Plaug Marcell T. McDuffie their GREENFIELD CENTER Otto C.

Plaug, 102, of Peacock Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Saratoga Hospital. Born on Aug. 16, 1898, in Dessau, East Germany, he was the son of Otto M. and Marie C.

(Richter) Plaug. Mr. Plaug came to States in the early his parents and Saratoga Springs thereafter. He married Schmitz in 1939, in Springs. Mr.

Plaug was a local artist, who the United 1900's with came to shortly Bernhardine Saratoga' well-known was an Plaug inspiration to all who knew him, especially the art students at Skidmore College. He was very pleasant to talk to. He enjoyed gardening, but his passion was in art. Survivors include his close friends, and caregivers for. over 20 years, Mr.

and Mrs. Elliot Older of Greenfield Center, and many, other close friends. There are no calling hours or funeral services scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of Brewer Funeral Home, 24 Church Lake Luzerne. Ruth H.

Beattie SALEM Ruth H. Beattie, 95, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 20.00, at Indian River Rehabilitation Center in Granville, where she had been a resident since June 15, 2000. She was born Sept. 29, 1905, in Rupert, the daughter of the late Ambrose and Lucy (Sheldon) Higgins.

Ruth was a 1923 graduate of the Troy Conference Academy, now known as Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt. She had been employed in the food service industry at several ski resorts, Lewis Mill in West Rupert, Sherwood Medical in Argyle and as a home health aide. Her memberships included the Rupert Historical Society and the Salem Senior Citizens, where she was very active selling raffle tickets. Ruth's hobbies included handiwork, especially making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Henry Beattie, who died in 1950; and a son, Karl Beattie, who died in 1991.

Survivors include six daughters, Ruth McKeighan and her husband Holden of Salem, Doris Rice and her husband Arthur of Hartfield, Pat Richardson of Bennington, Louise Keys of Salem, Mary Perkins and her husband Charles of Danvers, Mass. and Barbara Hunter and her husband Bob of Salem; one son, Charles Beattie and his wife Dorothy of Salem; 31 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Oct. 16, at McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. following calling hours with the Rev. Debbie Bessie, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Salem, officiating. There will be a committal service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct.

17, at Rupert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in her memory to Rupert Historical Society, Box 2, Rupert, VT 05768 or to a charity of one's choice. Adele 'Dolly' Shufelt SCHROON LAKE Adele "Dolly" Shufelt, 86, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown, after an extended illness. Dolly was born Jan.

28. 1914, in New York City, the daughter of the late John Sr. and Elizabeth (Patnode) Donaldson. She owned and operated Dolly's Restaurant in Schroon Lake for several years. She was a cook at Welche's Bar Restaurant, Dolbecks Diner and Blaisdels Restaurant in Schroon Lake and the Travelers Diner in Pottersville.

Dolly was a resident of Schroon Lake nearly all her life. She was predeceased by her son, John Shufelt; her daughter, Virginia Davis; three brothers, Edward, John and William. Donaldson: her sisters, Marion Cross, Dorothy Wyman and Virginia Thompson. Survivors include her grandchildren, Judy, John, Thomas, Walter, Eric and David Davis; two sisters, Helen Whipple and Betty Kraeling; her brother, James Garfield: two greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m.

Wednesday at Schroon Lake Community Cemetery. Memorials may take the form of donations to the Schroon Lake Emergency Squad. Schroon Lake, NY 12870. Arrangements are under the direction of Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home.

Schroon Lake. Frederick Haskins KINGSTON Frederick Haskins, 81, of Regent Street, Saratoga Springs, died Saturday, Oct, 14, 2000, at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. Born on June 28, 1919, in Manchester, he was the son of the late Frederick Haskins and Frances Wheeler Haskins. Mr. Haskins served in the United States Army.

He was married to the late Edna Gilbert Haskins, who died on Aug. 15, 1985. ROBERT A. BROWN SR. GLENS FALLS A funeral service for Robert A.

McDuffie, 28, a resident of Glens Falls, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at his residence. He was born on April 8, 1972. At the time of Mr. McDuffie's death he was employed by McDuffie the Great Escape.

Survivors include his companion, Krystal Burt of invited Glens Falls; his adopted 10 mother, Terry Taylor; and several, nieces, nephews and close friends. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Regan Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. Burial will follow. at Glens Falls Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are and may call from 9 to a.m. Tuesday prior to the services. William Henry Gardner POULTNEY, Vt. William Henry Gardner, 69. died Saturday, Oct.

14. 2000, at Fletcher Allen Health Care. MCHV Campus in Burlington, Vt. after a long illness. Bill was born on Jan.

23, 1931, in Essex, N.Y.. the son of the late William J. and Dorothy (Whalen) Gardner. He married Margaret (Corey) Gardner on Nov. 11.

1950, and together the couple owned and operated the Green Mountain Diner in Poultney from 1965 until 1975. Mr. Gardner was then employed in the maintenance department at Green Mountain College, retiring from there in 1979. Bill was a member of the United Baptist Church of Poultney and was actively involved in his church. serving as a church moderator, trustee and choir member, He also served on the Pastoral Relations Committee of the church.

He served as president and captain of the Poultney Rescue Squad, was one of the founding members of the Poultney Food Shelf and the Thrift Shop of the Poultney Rescue Squad and was involved with the Health Council of Poultney. In 1995, he was the recipient of the Poultney Citizen of the Year Award, recognizing him for his outstanding work within the community. Three brothers, Paul Gardner, Russell Gardner and Daniel Gardner died before him. Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife.

Margaret of Poultney; his three daughters, Diane Plumb of Rutland, Penny. Illsley and Holly Crandall, both of Poultney, his one son. Gary Gardner of East Poultney; his four sisters, Mary Fredette of Vermont. Eleanor Tumielewicz of Arizona, Pricilla Merchant of New Hampshire, Virginia Gardner of Massachusetts: his brother, Peter Gardner of Wisconsin; his 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. a lifelong resident of Rye, N.Y.. died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000. at Indian River Rehab and Healthcare Center in Granville. He had moved to Glens Falls in 1998.

to be near his sister, Anne. Born on Jan. 14. 1920, in New York City, he was the son of the late Hugo G. and Marion (Niederost) Stroetzel.

Mr. Stroetzel was a 1938 graduate of Rye High School and apprenticed at Yale Towne Lock Co. of Stanford. Conn. and graduated as a certified tool and die maker.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran and a member of the Rye Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed many years of boating and camping on the islands of Lake George and also enjoyed fishing, golfing and was an avid Giants fan. Besides his parents. his brother.

Glenn Stroetzel. a brother- James, McMurray and a nephew, Craig Stroetzel also died before him. Survivors include his sister, Anne McMurray Wiberg and her husband John of Glens. Falls; his twin nephews, James McMurray of Richmond. Va.

and John McMurray of Hopkinton, N.H. and Stephen Stroetzel and Douglas Stroetzel, both of Maryland; his sisters-in-law. Beatrice Bland of Maryland and Gloria Stroetzel of Mamaroneck and his grandniece. Christine, Stroetzel of Maryland. There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family in.
