My daughter is in the fifth grade and is failing in her work She brings home papers that some child has corrected i and everything is marked wrong Unless I and the rest have forgotten ever learned in portion of her right Still the teacher accepts the grade given by a mere child We used to grade each papers once in a while when I went to school but the teacher always went over the papers again herself tell me to talk to the teacher because I have tried that and she is either hard of hearing or care Parent Prior to Mr Bagnal's election to the office of mayor the city adopted a civil service code relative to the employment of men for our police and fire department These laws were ap proved by our lawmakers in Raleigh and because valid law's Mr Bagnal has taken the oath of office three times to obey and cause these laws to he enforced These laws as were writ ten to protect the birthright of every man woman and child of Statesville Yet Mr Bagnal has shown a heinous and flagrant con tempt for these laws by bringing a non citizen here to head our police force making a mockery of our laws with fore thought and intention In my statement to the press after filing for nomination of the office for mayor I mentioned the police force which has no proper leadership or five years operated radar at night after being repeatedly told it was not effective nor legal Illegal speed traps were set up on highways entering town thousands of dollars in fines and costs were collected victims were publicized and embarrassed often held up and made late for work and also made to lose time to attend court The ma jority of these people were innocent and had no intention of breaking any laws These illegal speed traps were being maintained the nights the robberies occured within 100 yards of police station and when the safe was removed from the church With proper leadership the turnover in police dept would not be so great and could be built into an efficient body Our police chief was thrust upon us with exorbitant claims as to ability and efficiency yet none of the major robberies or crimes have been solved To me it looks like we have had it It is getting late but with your votes we can make a new start On Saturday Miss Amelia (Buttons) Cash celebrated ninth brithday at a party given by her mother Mrs Cash at the Cash home 1811 West ront Street The Cash home was in the Easter
