Hometown Nominees AUGUST 2002 I i i i i the community with more than 90 percent of its graduates going on to institutions of higher learning. Rolette is proud of all of its residents, some of which have gained statewide recognition. Along with state coaches of the year in several sports and activities, Rolette is proud to be the home of three state Mothers of the Year Hazel Brennan, Marilyn Sawchuck and Lorraine Martinson. Rolette's high school principal, Wayne Johnson, was selected as the North Dakota Secondary Principal of the Year for 2002 and will be going on to National Competition later this year. Recently, Carmen Richard was selected as the Durum Triangle Farm Woman of the Year.

As the population of rural towns continues to decline, Rolette feels the crunch, but is actively involved in trying to encourage new businesses to come to Rolette through its Job Authority. While times are indeed tough, Rolette maintains a sense of pride in its community and is thankful for everyone who is dedicated to working to keep the town and surrounding area a productive community. Making a difference By BONNIE MUEHLBERG Volunteerism, community-minded, and pride are words that describe the people of Rolette. While the town itself is home to about 700 people, its outlying farmlands and tneir occupants make up a community of much greater magnitude. Rolette hosts a totally volunteer fire department and ambulance squad.

The American Legion helps fund many community and school-related activities, and the Shriners are equally as important to the people of Rolette. Within the last year our community adopted a "Fire-up Rolette slogan and formed RADA (Rolette Area Development Association), made up of businesses and individuals dedicated to keeping Rolette strong and offering activities for the family. RADA, with the help of other organizations in the city, offers a monthly fund-raising meal, fellowship for its members and other fun activities. In conjunction with RADA, Submitted photo The Roxy Rolette Pageant features men in swimsuits and evening gowns. centennial and all-school reunion committees were established in anticipation of Rolette's centennial in 2005.

RADA and the Centennial Committee will sponsor activities throughout the next three years in preparation for the big event, with plans to continue some activities after the centennial. One such event, which has theater that provides new features on a timely basis. Sports enthusiasts can choose from a trap-shoot range supported by the Wildlife Club or a nine-hole golf course featuring artificial greens. As in many smaller communities, the school serves as a hub for activities and events. The Rolette School is K-12 with 215 students.

Education is a prime concern for been a hit in the past and that we look forward to, is the repeat of our Roxy Rolette Pageant. The event features lovely "ladies" (men) in swimsuit, evening gown, and talent competition. Leisure activities can be enjoyed at the Rolette City Park with a heated swimming pool in the summer and new playground equipment. The town has a movie rienew theglow.
