PAGE FOURTEEN THE HOLLAND, MICHIGAN, EVENING SENTINEL MONDAY, JUNE 14, 1965 Basketball League Set This Summer A summer high school basketball league, designed to improve prep basketball in the Holland area, begins Thursday, June 17 in the Holland High fieldhouse. Participating in the Holland Recreation Department sponsored league will be players of varsity caliber for the 196566 school year. An fee has been: charged and they largely cover the expenses of the league, city recreation director Joe, Moran said. Don Piersma, Hoi- i land High School basketball roach, Ls director of the league and has volunteered to supervise the fieldhouse. Playing will be two teams from Holland High and one each from West Ottawa, Ham- ilton, Zeeland and Hudsonville.

i Piersma will coach the Holland teams while the other coaches, all basketball coaches at their i schools, include Jack Bonham, West Ottawa; Tom Bos. Hamilton; Norm Schut, Zeeland and Jack Shriver, Hud- i sonville. Coaches have agreed to call i the teams by nicknames, other than their school name or nickname. Games will be regulation time and three games will be held per night. Starting times are listed at 6:30, 7:45 and 9 p.m.

Lou Van Dyke, Norm Japinga and Dan Koop will be the officials. A double round robin schedule will be conducted, finishing Aug. 19. There will be no play off. Also scheduled is a basketball league which will be made up of reserves, intramural players and others in the ninth through the 12th grade during the 1965-66 school year.

Vanderlip tired in the sixth, giving up four runs before being lifted by manager Bob Sullivan. Vanderlip said today he plans to stay with the Sullivans for the rest of the season.

Sen- neker finished third after winning six straight times. Sennek- er and Larry Lawrence won the heat races. Anti-Income Tax Groups Set Merger DETROIT (DPI) Mayor George H. Kuhn. of Berkley, announced Sunday his Vigilance Tax Committee has agreed to join forces with two other statewide groups in a battle against both city and state income taxes.

The merger was agreed upon at a meeting held Saturday at Berkley city hall. i Kuhn said the Vigilance i forces would join with the 1 Peoples' No Income Tax ciation headed by former State Son. Hattie Wade, about 90, formerly of Laketown township, died Friday alter noon at the Kalamazoo State Hospital. Her husband, Arthur, died in 19440. There are no known survivors. Graveside services will be held at the Gibson cemetery in Laketown township Tuesday at 12 p.m. with evangelist Robin Knaack officiating.

(DPI) --Rafer Johnson, 1960 Olympic decathlon champion, is reported in "good condition" in a hospital here today after he was admitted Saturday for what was described as "back trouble." Viet Prisoner Is Healthy LONDON (UPD--A Western Pennsylvania Navy flier, who has been a prisoner of the North Vietnamese for months, is in good physical health, according to a weekend dispatch in a London newspaper. Lt. Commander Robert Schumaker, of New Wilmington, Pa.

was quoted in the Sunday times as saying "I have been treated humanely." The newspaper said a trade unionist, Ralph Bond, was invited by the North Vietnamese government to Hanoi where he interviewed Schumaker June 7. His account was telephoned back to London. "I am well fed and clothed, and I have a bed to sleep in. I drink mineral water. I hope that if one of the Vietnamese were to be captured by us he would be treated as well as I am." the pilot was quoted as saying.

Schumaker, who was shot down Feb. 11 in one of the first air attacks on North Viet Nam, was asked why he took part in the action. "I am a military officer and I obey he replied "but I thought the purpose of my a a was retaliation. I thought my attack was justified, but I doubt it now." M. De Ridder Dies at 55 Martin De Ridder.

55 of 3274 Lake Shore Park Township, died Sunday afternoon of self- inflicted gun shot wounds. Mr. De Ridder was born in Holland and has lived here all of his life. He was employed at West Michigan Furniture Co. for the past year.

Surviving are his wife, Jennie: one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Simmons of Holland; five grandchildren, three stepsons, Marvin Evink of Kent City; Jack Romeyn of Grandville and Raymond Romeyn of Sparata; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Elaine Morrison of Kalamazoo; two brothers, John De Ridder and Frank De Ridder of Florida: four sisters, Mrs. R.B. Grigsby; Mrs.

Cy Hoezee; Mrs. Harry Zoerman and Mrs. Ben Ten Cate, all of Holland. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Dykstra Funeral Chapel with Pastor Peter Jacobusse officiating.

Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the Dykstra Chapel Tuesday evening from 7 to 9. The body will not be shown. Mrs. R.

Eash Dies at 67 Mrs. Ralph D. (Ruth) Kash, 07, of 458 Lakewoud died ut Holland Hospital Saturday I afternoon iifter being hospitalized for 12 days. Born in Mason, Mrs. Eash was graduated from Mason High School and Albion College.

At the year of her graduation in 1923, the Eashes were married and for several years made their home in East Orange, NJ. In 1935, the family moved to their present address in Holland. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church and of the Women's Guild for Christian Service there. She had been active in the Holland Chapter of the AAUW, was a past member of the Holland Garden Club and served the Woman's Literary Club as secretary and as the first president of the Holland Camp Fire Girls' board. She was also a past president of the Abraham Leenhouts Holland Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are the husband; one daughter, Mrs. Ben (Doris) Harrison; of Seattle, two sons, R. Douglas of Midland and Dr. David T. Eash of Los Alamos, N.M.; four grandchildren: three sisters, Mrs.

Harley Meeder of Gun Lake, Mrs. Fred Dunlap of Patterson Heights, Pa. and Mrs. Mildred Wood of Pasadena, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

at the Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Chapel with the Rev. William C. Hillegonds officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home cemetery. Friends may meet the family at the Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Chapel tonight from 7 to 9.

Wymore, former a resident who died Thursday, were scheduled today at Woodward and Lowthcr Funeral Home in Holly Hill with cremation to follow.
