Kern Newly weds Honeymoon in Northern State CHINA LAKE MUs Ellen! Carol Jeffris and Robert Burkhalter were united in a wedding ceremony in ihe Navy station chapel. The newlyweds left for a honeymoon in Northern California and Oregon. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Man-in K.

Jeffris of 304-A Hornet China l.ake. while the bridegroom, an aviation storekeeper in the Navy, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Burkhalter of Springfield. Ore.

Chaplain John Zoller of the Navy station performed the wedding rites. Other members of the wedding party were Patricia Burkhalter. sister of the bridegroom, as maid of honor: and John W. Hoskins of San Diego, best man. Ushers were Eddie Springfield and Lewis Yaetman, both of China Lake.

The ceremony was followed by a reception at the home of the bride's parents. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. C. Burkhalter snd Davey Burkhalter from Springfield. and Mrs.

Ralph Mapes of Ellensburg. Wash. Lamont Lions Club Seeks Park Facility lamont Lions! Club has submitted plans to the; County Park Commission for an 8Ux90-foot concrete slab to put in the county park here for youngsters for roller skating and tennis. McFarland. Shafter. Taft. Tehachapi, Wasco and North High. The general committee making plans for the event is composed of Betty Silva, chairman; Alice Sams.

Nancy Benbow. Ronnie Clendenen. Don Wilson. Registration will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by a general assembly opened by Norman Willis. Tehachapi High School, president of the group.

Section meetings led by representatives from the different schools are planned for later in the morning. Topics and leaders chosen for the discussion groups are: Control of school dances, McFarland; conduct of popularity contest. Taft: senior activities, Delano; content of school newspapers, Wasco; cafeteria problems, Maricopa; use of cars on and around the school grounds, East Bakersfield; noon hour recreation program. Mrs. Edythe Criswell reported helping a needy family. Mrs. Tanner distributed materials for garments to be made into layettes. A donation was voted for the Cancer Research fund.

A new club project will be to sell vanilla, the proceeds to be used for a coffee urn. Mrs. A. B. Olson was chairman of the luncheon.

Her committee included Mesdames Pittman, Jessie Connick, Bessie Williams. Grayce Lepper and Amy Taylor. DELANO CC ENDORSES NEW OLD AGE AID PLAN Delano Chamber of. Commerce is on record endorsing a "self help" plan of handling old age security cases. The chamber took the action after listening to a talk by Al Wilbur, county welfare director.

The plan would allow persons drawing state aid for aged to take jobs without losing eligibility on the old age rolls. As soon as the elderly person leaves a job, he immediately would start getting aid again. Wilbur did not recommend that the chamber oppose Gov. Warren's bill for indigent persons, although he indicated it probably would mean more expense for taxpayers and less for families of the indigent. The welfare director said two things helping to relieve the welfare problem now are new laws requiring mothers to work when reasonably possible and requiring support pay from "runaway" fathers.

Lorin Juday was authorized to Vineland School Students Vie in attend a conference in Los An geles April 25 on problems of school construction, sponsored by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and also authorized to represent the Delano Chamber on the bill at. Kites of all types and description were entered, each one made by the contestant. David Schrock won a plastic kite for the highest, James Curtis for the prettiest.

Box kites went to Gary Orona for the largest, William Risner for the smallest and to Jesse Moore for the funniest. A good sportsmanship award went to Raymond Cleveland. Honorable mention went to Rena Belle Maiden, Fred Ringer. Leroy Waters and Wanda Mitchell. Winners on the basis of "fly- ability" were Edward Salyards, Martha Buford.

Outgoing Staff Feted by Lodge Catherine Chenard, royal matron of the Mojave Court of "Amaranth Lodge, and Roger White, royal patron, presided at their last meeting during a "farewell night" program. The evening ceremony was highlighted by the initiation of two new members from Lancaster, Mrs. Dorothy Sturm and Mrs. Margie Fletcher. Deke Bargman, son of Mrs.

Fletcher and brother of Mrs. Sturm, was royal patron during the initiation, while Mrs. Bargman served as royal matron. Mrs. Bargman is royal matron of Unity Court in Glendale.

Morrie Finkleman told members of the lodge at a regular meeting. Malcolm McSween is serving as general chairman of the annual program and Clif Shelton as ticket salesman. Les Harvey is directing the end men and specialty acts- and Leon Carroll is in charge of music.

Mike Murphy is a patient at the Santa Fe Hospital in Los Angeles, it was reported, and Jake Lehman a patient at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. A. G. Trox, ill at his home in Derby Acres, was reported as improved. Coming events announced included Mothers' Day ceremonies.

May the annual Officers' Ball, May 16, and an inter-lodge initiation at Bakersfield, May 26. A report on the Valley Elks conference held Sunday in Delano was given by Dr. Johnson. George Laurance. Girl Scout chairman, reported on the Elks- sponsored Brownie troop.

Gene Myers served as organist and Jimmy Smith of San Fernando was a guest. Attendance awards went to Carl Jacks, Joe Wheeler and Harold Dennis. Taft Rebekahs Name Fresno Delegates to send two delegates to the Rebekah Assembly convening in Fresno, were made by the Past Noble Grands Association of Taft Rebekah Lodge 343. The association meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Doris Bracken, 118 Madison and included a potluck luncheon at noon for which Mrs.

Eva Snoddy Was a special guest. Next meeting of the group will be held at the home of Mrs. Emma Nopper. Ridge Club Gives Farewell Dinner FRAZIER farewell potluck dinner for Mr. and Mrs.

W. F. Buchanan was sponsored by the Troivel and Scepter Club. The dinner, which proceeded the. club's regular meeting and canasta tournament, was held at the Gorman School with Mr.
