The firm last year bought LIN Television, a group of seven large television stations, for $2 billion. It also has controlling interests in two radio groups: Chancellor Media and Capstar Broadcasting. Becoming part of a large media company should be advantageous to Meyer employees, said Meyer President Judith Ekberg Johnson. "There are chances to grow; large companies have more money," she said. The transaction, which is subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission, is expected to close by the fourth quarter of this year, she said.

Meanwhile, the station will continue under its present family ownership. Realities of the television business should make the transition transparent to viewers, Johnson said.
