PEOPLE We returned Down In Iredell on Sunday to find the Statesville recall election back where it be right with the people It was the people not the poli ticians who organized the move ment circulated and signed the petitions and in the final analysis it was the people who stepped forward to offer as candidates Two of those who filed we know as men of integrity and ability They are Sherman Mitchell and Wilkes Kivett We feel their plat form calling for a vote on the swimming pool tax issue is sound and workable and we are convinced that if elected they would make good councilmen The third announced candidate Wilhelm we do not know and are therefore unable to oL fer any valid information on his qualifications for office This we do know These three men showed considerable cour age in stepping forward to give the voters of their wards a choice in election It is the sort of courage which springs from the people when their leaders fail them It has saved America more than once in the past It may save it yet again So much for Wards One Two and Six When we returned Sun day we found a full fledged write in campaign going for Clarence Stimpson in Ward ive Wesley Shell in Ward
