Ctardfo The Marysville Advocate October 8. 1992 9C Gospel recital set at Winifred church God's timeless message tifully when he says, "Human nature is like a drunk peasant mounting a horse. Lift him into the saddle on one side, over he topples on the other side." That is the truth of the matter. The "problem" does not lie within God's Word or the values it imparts, but within ourselves. God's Word is eternal as certain today as it was the day it was written.

Even as His Word is eternal, so, too, is the message it delivers timeless. Therefore, that oft-quoted qualifier, "But this is the 90's," falls dead before the-Word of God as the lame excuse that it is! The author of Hebrews writes: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Jesus Christ does not change, God's Word does not change, God's message for us does not change. The only thing that is to change is our attitudes and our desires. God calls for us to change, to put off our "old way of thinking" and to live for Him. The message delivered to us in the Holy Scriptures is timeless.

Knowing this, we can be most certain that the message it delivers to us is just as timeless. The same holds true for the values it gives to us. The Word of God, the Bible, is built squarely upon one promise that of eternal salvation given through Jesus Christ. The values it imparts as well as the change it calls for are beautifully summed up in that well-known passage, John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son. That whoever would believe in Him should not perish, but have life everlasting." Thanks be to God! we desire to change ourselves to conform to His will, or change His Word so His will is a little easier for us to desire? The theme of our need for change is echoed time and again throughout the Bible.

In his letter to the Ephesians Paul writes: "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." And again to the Christians in Rome: "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is his good, pleasing and perfect will." One of the most popular responses to these passages, calling for our change has been the battle cry, "That was then, but this istheSOs!" Truth be known, the "90s have nothing to do with it We can see this in a remark made by Martin Luther in 1530: "Today, nothing is so common as turning right into wrong and wrong into right by employing all sorts of clever expedients and strange tricks." The Bible points out that, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." If this is the case, why then are we so quick to turn from God's Word? Luther, again puts it beau Rudy Atwood will present an old-fashioned gospel recital at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Winifred Baptist Church.

Atwood will play the piano. He formerly was with Dr. Charles E. Fuller's Old-Fashioned Revival Hour radio program. Atwood's concerts have taken him through the United States and Canada, where he has played in churches and in large halls and auditoriums, including Madison Square Garden, Boston Garden, Hollywood Bowl, Maple Leaf Garden and Constitution Hall.

He has been called "the most imitated pianist in gospel music." He has more than 500 hymns in his repertoire and has been called both a pioneer and a bridge, keeping alive the love for traditional hymns. THE COUNTY health nurse will be here 1-3 p.m. Oct. 14 'at the United Methodist Church. directory JCross-Lites says: "The Spirit of God abides within. 40-5-0 growing number of church bodies who no longer strive to change the world through the powerful Word of God.

They instead allow the world, society, to influence and compromise their message for the sake of being "relevant." Where does such compromise fit in when we consider passages such as Deuteronomy 4:2: "Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you." The outcome is clear. No longer is it seen as wrong to murder the unborn. No longer is it seen as wrong to live together outside of marriage. On the other hand, no longer is it seen as right to forgive and forget Rather, we are encouraged to milk every mistake made for all we can get After all, we deserve it! The key to all of this is seen in the passage cited above, especially in the word, obedient. It is key because God is here calling us to change and to live according to His Word, not our own evil, ignorant desires.

DON WHITE TrinityZion Lutheran As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." Peter Much has been said these past months concerning "family values" in America. Vice President Quayle opened quite the can of worms with his comment concerning a popular TV show.

Why this has become such a big issue is really rather simple: It's because our vaunted society, in all it's wisdom, "has drifted all too far from the source of true wisdom God's Word the Holy Scriptures. By so doing we have replaced those values given us by God with a set of "values" of our own design. That is to say, we've surrounded ourselves with a set of values with which we can feel quite comfortable. One of the most disturbing aspects of this drift is the fact that many "Christian" leaders and denominations have also jumped on this bandwagon. The result is a Assembly of God MARYSVILLE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP Mealing at St.
