NOTICE OF WORKSHOP MEETING BROCKWAY AREA HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM 8:00 P.M., THURSDAY, JANUARY 14, 1960 The success of community planning and development depends on arousing the interest of the citizens. It is the hope of the commission that the workship meeting will interest and alert a body of citizens who will aid in developing the best plan for our community and who will work to protect it against domination by any special group or interests. The commission needs the support and guidance of the in Dog License Renewal Date January 15 The deadline for renewal or purchase of dog licenses is fast approaching and dog owners are urged to check the date. The It's Leap Year again and you can blame the Scots for declaring it open season on bachelors. They probably saw the custom of letting a woman pop the question as a way to put money in the treasury and take spinsters off the welfare rolls.

According to the research of World Book Encyclopedia Scotland is said to have decreed in 1288 that ladies "of bothe highe and lowe estait" shall have the privilege of proposing during leap years. If a man refused the offer, lie was fined as much as one pound unless he could show that another woman had a prior claim to his affections. The ladies, however, had to give fair warning that they were out to catch a man. If the edge of a scarlet petticoat wasn't clearly visible, a man was absolved from paying the forfeit. France reportedly passed a similar law, and the ladies of Florence and Genoa are said to have been given the privilege before Columbus sailed to 1959 licenses expire January 15, no matter when they were pur Brockway Citizens Bank Held Annual Meeting Townships; Brockway and Falls Creek boroughs.

The elected officials of these four local governments have each created a Planning and Zoning Study Committee. These four committees have joined in an Area Planning Group to work toward a solution of mutual problems. This area will benefit and grow rapidly as a result of the new airport and the Keystone Shortway. Through planning the commission hopes to make sure that the residents reap the fuil benefits of these and other new facilities. The goal of the commission is to plan a workable land-use pattern for industry, commerciai functions, farming, residences, transportation facilities and recreation areas.

That the planning study at all times will properly consider the physical appearance, the economic needs, and the social well-being of the community. Every citizen has the right and the responsibility to have a voice in the study and are urged to attend the two meetings here on Thursday and Friday evenings of this week. An open letter appears in this issue to the residents of the entire northern part of Jefferson County and interested observers from other communities to attend the workshop meeting on Thursday evening in the high school auditorium. A movie will be shown on what happens when a community decides to approve zoning. There will be a discussion per dustrialists, farmers, businessmen and bankers who are the major private investors in this area.

The interest of union leaders and and members should be aroused because a community plan must concern itself with the expansion of employment opportunities for a growing population. We are asking that leaders and members of churches, business groups, agricultural organizations, women's clubs, P. T. A. associations and fraternal groups attend this workshop.
