The household aud the domestics help, of course, to consume them. Large fires at both ends of the kitchen look enormous, and, ith the viands slowly revolving on the spits, present a wonderful picture. On either side there are also charcoal fires for the more delicate cookery for the chef cTceuvres of French invention aided by certain mysterious utensils used in the proceasf that sadly bewilder the initiated, whose astonishment is moreover excited by the great size and number of the culinary vessels displayed ostentatiously around the huge fire-places. Among the standing dishes, we are informed, on her majesty's table, there is a baron of beef, an immeasurable pie, and a boar's head, two or three brawns, and a large woodcock pie, which, by old custom, is sent over by the Viceroy of Ireland. As might have been expected, the staff of persons employed in the kitchen is numerous.

It consists of a chef de cuisine, (an important post, now filled by M. Moret,) two master cooks, two yeomen of the month, two yeomen of the kitchen, two roasting cooks, two larderers, five scourers, one steam man, three kitchen CARPETS, Oils CLOTHS, ness of the stomach, foul tongue, bitterness in the mouth, nausea, sick headache, Ac, Ac. When the cabs had reached the centre of the square, Whitty jumped behind the second, on which was a large black portmanteau, with a smaller one beside it. He laid hold of the rail with one hand and with the other pulled off the black portmanteau, which was so heavy as to bring him with it to the ground.

The horse reared, and Atwell exclaimed to his companion, "You have tumbled alarmed the man." The men, however, driver and passengers included, showed less consciousness of what was going on than the horce. No policeman was near, at least none noticed this bold robbery in open daylight, nor did any passer-by. The cabs drove on, and the robbers, after carrying the valuable portmanteau for some distance on their shoulders, hired another cab in which it was conveyed to the shop of one Jackson, an oil and color man in Leonard Btreet. The articles that particularly attracted Atwell's attention, beside this butterfly, which was sold to Mrs. Jackson for two was a small box containing bracelets, which, upon examination, he thought must be gold; another box, like a half-moon, which contained a coronet for a lady's head; three things like studs, (diamond buttons,) a kind of stone, he could not tell whether blue or green, but set in goldj a box containing a letter, with four sovereigns and three and four pence in it; also, a bible, prayer book, and lots of petticoats and linen gloves, marked 6ome shawls, and a kind of lace or crape. They sold a quantity of lace and dresses to Jackson for fifty shillings, and a lace shawl to Mrs.

HICGISS BROTHERS, ocS 8 RANDOLPH STREET. Rich Trimming Goods, Reduced s.nch below the manufacturing cost As to the value of the jewels, the new possessors were not less in the dark. Whitty appraised them at forty pounds, and Jackson finally pretended to have sold them for that sum, which he paid over, and which the three confederates divided among themselves, after which they went to Petticoat lane and rigged themselves out with new clothes. Not long after, the appearance ot an advertisement offering a reward of 500 for the portmanteau, gave the robbers some idea of the value of the plunder which they had parted with at so cheap a rate. Atwell and Saint then called upon Jackson to ask what he intended to do.

Ho alleged himself to have bsen as ignorant as they, and insisted that he had sold the jewels for 60. They threatened to inform, and demanded 10 each as the price of silence, but only succeeded in getting 2 each. lanneis. ald drop and diamond bow in SpitalQelds at least such is the statement made by Jackson. In other cases the stones were taken out, and the gold settings melted down. On the whole it does not appear that, beyond the consolation of tracing her crape shawl into the bands of Mrs. Jackson, and of following her stays and liuen into the possession of Polly Gentlewoman, these developments will redound much to the benefit of Lady Ellesmere. Whitty and Saint, who have not yet been arrested, may throw some further light on the matter, but that is hardly probable, and we fear that the countess will have to whistle for her jewels and her wardrobe.
