The success of the undertaking is assured from the fact that the output of the company is already contracted for. The product will be a good grade of plain and decorated table china-ware. As a whole, the flourishing new town that is soon to appear, will add materially to Westmoreland's greatness and prove a source of gratification to the community in which it is located. This will be gratifying news to many Ligonier valley people who not only own property in that town, but have many friends there who will be benefitted by the town's prosperity. Property which has had little or no sale has suddenly advanced in price and rents have gone up with a strong demand for houses.

Ross, of Ligonier township, lost a pocketbook containing about thirty dollars last Saturday evening in the meat market of W. F. Young. The parties finding the same will please return it as they were seen picking it up. II. Kobb and sou, Clifton, Westmoreland Coal Company Started Half a Century Ago. The Westmoreland Coal company will celebrate its semi-cenlenuial this month. It is now 50 years since the concern was first organized at Irwin. This event will bring to mind the great development in the coal industry of this section.

The first load of bituminous coal was hauled east of the Allegheny mountains by the Pennsylvania railroad in 1852 from the Westmoreland Coal company's "Shade Mines." The mine was operated in 1852 by Coleman, Hillmau Co. A few months later the Westmoreland Coal company was organizsd with Hon. John Covode, of Ligonier valley, as president. This company acquired control of the "Shade Mine." This mine has been worked out many years ago. Misses Luella Ambrose and Edna Keffer.
