Side-combs, so long banished, areagain worn by ladies, old and young. Cardinal capes ot Sicilienue, just displayed, are trimmed Willi duck lace. Rolled gold is a color which is rapidly asser ting itself among tne novelties. The Mirecourt lace is the lace most used for lingerie, on account of its beauty and durabil ity. New scarfs for the neck are of colored crape wiih the ends embroidered in contrasting col ors.

The most fashionable evening dresses have the corsage opeuing V-shaped lu front and back. Whole suits aro shown of the new ribbon material, comprising skirt, overskirt and saque. Amber beads strung at intervals on black silk fringes are among the importations shown in New York. New and handsome purses for silver are of fawn-colored leather, with the sides of red croteheted silk. Large buckles of pearl, like those worn generations ago, are fashionable for the wide belts so popular now.

New note paper has the writer's favorite flower painted in the lcfl-liaud corner of the paper aud envelope. A beautiful material of rich Oriental coloring, used for trimming huts and bonnets, is called "Nabob gauze." Dentists are making use of celluloid, as plates for false-teeth, as it Is lighter and wears better than platiua or rubber. The engagement bracelet is something new. It is a narrow, flat gold band, and locks on the wrist with a combination lock. A convenient novelty Is a silvered pin ith four small chains attached, for the purpose of holding the fan, watch, vinaigrette and purse.

Almond color, the new shade of drab or brown, is seen in kid gloves, ribbons, straws for bonnets, and elegant silks for fall wear. Handsome fire screens, table covers and mantel decorations are made bv ornamenting black cambric ith pictures and then varnishing the whole. The Imported fall dresses are short in front, of sheath form, but have small pauiers in the back, or looped draperies formed by catching up the demi-train. Morning dresses made of fine unbleached muslin and trimmed with torchon lace are worn by ladies in preference to the thin white materials so long used, as they'are of the yellow-white so much admired at present. One-Iyed Wisdom.

The Preshytciian Church lias long been known as the advocate of a thorough collegiate education for her sons. Some of the best colleges of the land and of the world have been founded and built up for the sake of the hvyt. This one eytd isdem is giving way to broader and better views as Presbyterians are getting the other rye open and beginning to lock after girls. There Is to day a grow-! ing disposition to give to daughters educational advantages which correspond with those given to the sons, even to the limit of a full collegiate course. Why should not Mary keep side by side with her brother John up to the "Commencement Day Ought our daugh ters to enter active life with any Wss thorough training and preparation for it responsibili ties than our son receive There is much practical unbelief to be overcome before the educated Christian men of to-day are.

fully prepared to provide for girls as thorough and liberal a course of education as they demand for boys. Still, the world moves, aud the day of larger views is dawning. The friends of Wilson College, at Chanibersburg, are determined that this institution shall meet the demand for woman'shigher education, or perish as a college In the attempt to create such a demand In the Presbyterian Church. Stu dents who take the full course of study may expect to stand side, by side with their brothers who graduate at colleges for men, as companions, prepared for the thinking and the working which the Church and the world demand In the coming age. Students who take but partial course will get the benefit of such training In the order of studies as has been proved by experience to be best for the discipline and development of the mind.

A proper arrangement of studies, and thoroughness In each step as the pupil advance before going to a higher, are absolutely essential to scholarship. In Wilson College provision is made for such training as will best fit the pupil for the next higher step to be taken, whuiher that be In the direction of an advanced study, or into the realm of a new home, la which woman should be prepared to rule as a real queen For physical culture provision is made, and students are impressed with the necessity of knowing and observing the laws of health and healthful living. Religious and moral Instruction and training In the habits of Christian life are k'-pt before students as "the beginning of wisdom." The highest degree of mental culture consistent with the pupils' health Is insisted upon. How many fathers and mothers are prepared to avail themselves of the opportunity to give to their daughters the same advantages which are given to their sons, who are sent to college for a full course of study preparatory to entering upon their life wor All parents who wish their daughters to take a college course of study are Invited to communicate with the college and examine the requirements of the course. Scarlet for the prevention of scarlet fever have lately been lsued by the Michigan Hoard of Health, and as this is one of the most contagious of diseases it might be ell to bear them in mind: The first precau tion is the isolation of the sick from the well and the prevention of contact ith the patient.

The room should be cleared of ail unnecessary clothiog, carpets, or other substances in which the poison may lurk and be thence transferred elsewhere. The patient should use rags instead of handkerchiefs, so that they may be burned. Body and bed linen should be placed in vessels of water containing chloride of lime or similar substance. Discharges should tie received in a solution of sulphate of iron or copper, and be afterward buried. Persons recovering from this disease should be considered dangerous as long as there is any scaling of the skin, soreness of the eyes, etc.

Many other precautions are incolcated, all of which are considered more or less important. Stkasgb Incident.
