The Llgonier Echo Wedneday, May 19, 1976 5 bituary William Howard at loading Bicentennial Wagon train in river journey to district Are you losing money in your checking account? 51, wWr Jil As George Lentz, our WEFS-Ligonier Manager can tell you, California, Oregon and Santa Fe Trails going west. Following the program Saturday, the train proceeded north to Sugar Grove where some 26 wagons were loaded on two river barges. The families left the wagons and will travel to an encampment at Wooddale until the barges arrive at Elizabeth on June 14. The barges will make stops in Missouri, Mississippi and Ohio enroute to Pennsylvania. As part of the National Bicentennial observance, wagon trains are retracing the historic route of travel from the east to converge at Valley Forge on July 4.

The Wagon train will leave Round Hill Farm at Elizabeth on June 15. On June 16, it will visit Sutersville, Gratztown, Lober, Marchand, Cowansburg, Her-minie where there will be a noon stop, Madison, and will encamp at the Youngwood Park and Pool. Leaving Youngwood on June 17, the train will visit Hecla Hurst High School, Norvelt for a lunch stop, Calumet and Mammoth Park where it will spend the night. On June 18, the wagons will travel through Weltytown, Rodney, Donegal, Jones Mills and Laurel Ridge State Park. William Howard of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania State wagon master and assistant state coordinator for the Bicentennial Wagon Train, traveled to the Midwest last weekend to participate in ceremonies and observe the loading of the wagon train on barges for the river journey to Pennsylvania.

Howard flew to Kansas City, Kansas Thursday. On Friday and Saturday morning, Howard rode the wagon train through Kansas City Missouri along the historic Santa Fe Trail to Independence, Missouri where the train was present for dedication of the solid bronze statute of President Harry S. Truman in Independence Square The dedication took place on May 8, Mr. Truman's birthday. President Gerald Ford spoke at the dedication.

Howard said he was particularly pleased to attend the ceremony because of his acquaintance with the late Howard was assigned as motor engineer on Truman's Presidential yacht, the USS Williamsburg in 1945-46 while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. Howard said he paid a visit to the President's wife, Bess and daughter, Margaret Truman Daniels. Independence was known as the Queen City of Trails, according to Howard. Silent auction Bt Assured Of LARGEST SELECTION rx ft PITTSBURGH-Heading the stellar cast for a "good old-fashioned" Vaudeville Revue coming to Heinz Hall on June 6 and 7 are Milton Berle, Godfrey Cambridge, Dick Haymes, The Ink Spots, Harmonica Rascals, Pat Suzuki and one of the most popular showmen of our time, George Jessel.

This is happy news for those who lament the "good old days," and especially the demise of vaudeville, that feast of entertainment featuring singers, dancers, comics and novelty acts. From the rousing opening act to the lavish grand finale, the "Roy Radin Vaudeville Revue," a two-hour extravaganza now touring the country with nine outstanding acts, keeps audiences happily applauding. No vaudeville show is complete without its novelty acts and this show is no exception. Ken Sherburne is a juggler with a difference he works from a 15-foot-high unicycle. Comedian Irving Benson completes the stellar cast, which is ably backed by Buddy Freed's 12-piece orchestra.

Vaudeville lives! 14x56 The Fairfield Township Philanthropic Aid Society will sponsor a silent auction at the Chestnut Ridge Community Center on Friday, May 21. The public is invited to this affair. Refreshments will be available. Mrs. Cecil (Janet) Brinker is president of the society.
