Hawkins Director First National Bank of Mason City LESLIE G. HAWKINS District Manager, Interstate Power Company Director of First National Bonk since January 1961 Leslie G. Hawkins was born in the southern part of England, near the city of Taunton, on November 5, 1901. He attended schools in the County of Devonshire and came to the United States as an immigrant passenger when he was 18, soon after World War I. Before coming to America, he served an apprenticeship as an automobile engineer.

After working in Mason City as an automobile mechanic and later as a millwright for Jacob E. Decker Sons, he enrolled at the Hamilton School of Commerce. Upon completion of that course in 1921, he accepted a position with Peoples' Gas Electric Company in Mason City, for which company and its successors he has worked continuously since that time. Mr. Hawkins was elected assistant treasurer of this company in 1937, treasurer in 1942, secretary and treasurer in 1946, and vice president and secretary in 1949.

He was elected assistant treasurer of Kansas City Power Light Company in 1950, when Peoples' Gas Electric became a division of that company. He was also at that time named assistant general manager of the division. On January 1, 1 959, Hawkins was named district manager at Mason City for Interstate Power Company, a position which he now holds. In 1926, he married the former Elizabeth Frye of Mason City. They have two children, a daughter, Mrs.

R. W. (Beverly) Kitto of Los Angeles, California, and a son, Thomas, of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Hawkins is a member of the executive committee and vice president of the Moson City Chamber of Commerce, and was awarded the Outstanding Boss Award by the junior Chamber of Commerce in 1963.

He is a director of the Mason City Development Association and the North Iowa Fair He is past president of the Mason Cily Rotary Club, a past master of Benevolence Lodge 145 A.F. A.M., past president of Missouri Valley Electric Association, the Iowa Utilities Association, and the Mason City Board of Education. He is a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a Trustee of the Diocese of Iowa, a member of the Elks, Mason City Country Club, Euchre Cycle Club, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Leslie G.
