A fourth-quarter interception by Randy Preston set up a touchdown that gave Central State of Oklahoma a 14-11 victory over Mesa, Saturday and the NAIA Division I football championship. Preston's 47-yard return after intercepting Bill Monson's pass led to a 1-yard plunge by fullback Randy Jones with 8:46 left in the game. The championship was the second for Central State, which won its first NAIA title in 1962.

FREEMAN AP Sports Writer WICHITA FALLS, Texas -GoiiiH to the movies helped Eastern Kentucky capture its second NCAA Division I-AA national title Saturday. The Colonels nipped Delaware 17-11 in the nationally televised Pioneer Howl on two big breaks, including a 77-yard blocked field goal return by defensive end Richard Bell. "We noticed that the Delaware center adjusted the angle of the ball just before he snapped it," said defensive back Gus Parks, who blocked a 31-yard field goal attempt that led to the second-quarter touchdown. "I got a good break and the ball hit me in the wrist," said Parks. '-Studying the films really helped us." "This team has a trademark of doing something to let the other team back in the game and keep you worried at the end," said Eastern Kentucky Coach Roy Kidd.

"These kids know how to win. All year long they have been close at the end. I don't think we've put anybody away." Kidd said the blocked field goal was a designed play where "We rush from one side to block it and have a guy on the other side to pick it Delaware Coach Tubby Raymond said, "We made too many mistakes. The blocked field goal was an unforgivable error that cost us dearly and turning the ball over gave them another touchdown. Eastern Kentucky, which won the NCAA Division 1AA title in 1979, finished the season with a perfect 13-0 record, while Delaware was 12-2. Bell's blocked field goal return came after Parks broke through the Blue Hens untouched on K.C. Knoblock's attempt. The 6-foot-3, 227-pound Bell, a senior from Marietta, had to outrun Knobloch for the score at 9 40 of the second quarter. The stunning touchdown came just seconds after wide receiver Paul Hammond of Delaware had dropped a pass from quarterback Rick Scully in the Colonel end zone.

Eastern Kentucky made it 10-0 at halftime by driving from its 47 to the Delaware 20 before Jamie Lovett kicked a 37-yard field goal into a brisk 18 mph north wind. John Cason fumbled the second half kickoff away to Cliff McClullough at the Blue Hen 21. Terrence Thompson ran for 17 yards and Nicky Yeast scored from a yard away two plays later to make it 17-0. The Blue Hens took advantage of two fourth-quarter Colonel mistakes for their touchdown. Punter Steve Rowe couldn't handle the snap and Delaware took over at the Eastern Kentucky 20.

On the next play, halfback Kevin Phelan threw a reverse pass to Steimer for the touchdown. Rick Tutus was tackled by Frank Hardin short of the goal on a two-point try. Make Great Christmas Gifts From That has been no problem with the Holiday Bowl, which drew its fourth sellout in five years Friday night.

Nearly 53,000 jammed into San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium to see Ohio State thump Brigham Young 47-17. Those teams will realize a payoff of $400,000 apiece, thanks to the bowl's new three-year contract with the Mizlou Television Network, which carried the game with ESPN. Mizlou paid Holiday Bowl officials $105,000 in 1981. This year it was $50,000 and will jump to $300,000 in 1983 and $350,000 in 1984. The San Diego City Council voted last week to increase the stadium's seating capacity from 52,500 to 60,000.

Construction on the $10 million project will start next month. Reid figures the Holiday Bowl payoff to each team will reach at least $425,000 in 1983. By The Associated Press SAN DIEGO The Holiday Bowl has no intentions of switching its game to Christmas, just to land a network television contract. John Reid, the executive director of the Holiday Bowl, experienced the Christmas Day game when he served with the Fiesta Bowl. "It's like having your mother-in-law driving over a cliff in your new Cadillac," said Reid.

'A Christmas Day game produces great TV ratings and revenue, but it erodes your local support," said Reid, involved in four Christmas telecasts of the Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, before moving to the San Diego bowl. "It's difficult to sell tickets to your local people and to keep volunteers fired up," said Reid. Gold Gar?
