August There Was a break in tha beautiful weather that has graced tha Saratoga meeting all monfh, when rain came this afternoon and the races were run over a muddy track. The feature of the day was the Kentucky, a selling stake for two-year-old miles over the five and a half furlongs distance. It was worth IS.I7S to the winner and went to Willis Sharps Kilmer's Sunsyr, the homebred daughter of Sun Briar and Misty It was a two-horse race all the way. Sande had Humorette away on her toes, and she Jumped into a lead of a couple of lengths, while Sua Donovan broke so slowly as to hava little chance. Then In the first furlong McAtee took Sunayr to Humorette and the pair raced aa one horse (all around the head and well Into the stretch, drawing out well from the others.

Swinging for home and still closely lapped, both Humorette and Sunayr went a bit wide and when Merlmee made a close turn Into tha straight with Sue Donovan she had an opportunity, but she was too far back to become a serious menace. Then in the last furlong there was as pretty a duel as hss been seen all year between the two leaders. They were closely locked and striding together, while neltlrer could gain an advantage- Peter Coyne and D. D. Canfield are visitors from Louisville.

FAST BOUT With -Honors Even Sammy Mandell and Knock-Oat Mars Pit Up Lively-Exhibitioa at Riverside Arena, Covington. After two postponements the ten- round contest between Sammy Man dell, of Rockford, and Knockout Mars, of Cincinnati, was' put on last night at the Riverside arena. Covington, t)efore a large crowd and proved one of the most interesting and exciting contests of the year.

Although Mandell landed the larger number of punches those of Mars' were more ef- ectlve and the bout ended In a draw. Mandell showed wonderful ring knowledge for a youngster and Is lightning fast. He stepped around the roped circle flinging his gloves In a bewildering manner and continual ly shovlnf his left In the Cincinnati boy's fate. Mars, as usual, puziled his opponent with his southpaw de livery and made Mandell miss many ell-aimed blows. The boxers were on top of each other all the time and did not slow up In their work during the entire 10 rounds.

It Is too badt that Mandell hasn't got a knockout punch in either hand or he would lay out those who face him with ease. He can place his punches In a manner that pleases the crowd, but the sports seem to prefer punches those of Mars were more ef thing that Is lacking In Mendel's makeup. Considering that this was the first fight Mars had taken part In for sev eral months his showing was all that could be desired. He, too. Is without the sock that puts them away, so the affair was pretty well even up aa a boxing match, and the same pair would draw another big house if matched before the summer season ends at the Riverside open air arena.

Threatening weather- forced the Riverside Club to put the main event on after the second preliminary, aa it ooked as If It might rain any minute. The weights were announced as Mars 130'i and Mandell 121 pounds. Eddie Ling, of Chicago, who also looks after the affairs of Tommy Gib bons, was back of Mandell, while Biddy Itlshop had charge of Mara'a corner. Palsy Daley won over Lou Henne- berry In a six-round set-to that was Interesting In spots. Daley was the aggressor and gt home several dandy punches and used a left to good advantage.

Each weighed In under 120 pounds. Dave. Kambry, veteran Cincinnati lightweight, beated "Jug" Miller In a six-round number. Clinching by both men slowed up the scrup. Fambry hit the harder blows and scored two knockdowns in the second round.
