2 The Sentinel, Carlisle, Saturday, April 9, 1988 FOR THE RECORd John H. John H. Rideout 87, RD1 Shippensburg, died Thursday at Michael Manor Nursing Home, Gettysburg. He was the widower of Alice G. Rideout.

He was born in Shippensburg to the late Joseph and Emma (Williams) Rideout. He was retired from Letterkenny Army Depot. A U.S. Army veteran of World War he was a member of the former Robert Green American Legion Post 729. Surviving are three sons, John H.

Rideout Jr. of Shippensburg, Wayne F. Rideout of Carlisle and Richard G. Rideout of Chambersburg; two daughters, Catherine E. Williams, Preston Preston W.

Baker, 84, 11089 Hurley Drive, Shippensburg, died Thursday in Chambersburg Hospital. He was the widower of Gladys Baker. Born in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Jacob M. and Mary Belle (Alleman) Baker. He was retired from the Greif Company, Shippensburg.

He was a member of "Shippensburg First Church of God, the men's Bible class, the American Bells Association and the Fort Morris Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. Surviving are a son, Ronald A. Baker, Walnut Bottom, and three William William L. Paxton, 54, 114 N. Pitt Carlisle, died Friday in Carlisle Hospital.

Born in Cumberland County, he was the son of the late Ralph E. Paxton Sr. and the widower of Lois Paxton. He was an employee of Kinney Shoe Company and formerly worked at Carlisle Hospital. Surviving are his mother, Viola Myers Paxton, Carlisle; four sisters, Betty Smotherman, Linday Hurley and Loretta Paxton, all of Carlisle, and Shirley Edgecomb, ObiTUARiES Rideout Sr.

Philadelphia, and Alice C. Young, Newark, an adopted son, John A. Rideout of Carlisle; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. next Saturday in FogelsangerBricker Funeral Home, 112 W.

King Shippensburg. The Rev. Seth Tritle will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Garden, Chambersburg. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 225 E. King Chambersburg 17201. W. Baker grandchildren. Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

at the Shippensburg First Church of God. The Rev. W. Stanley Darrah will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.

Friends may call at the church one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg Band, Lincoln Fogelsanger, 307 E. King Shippensburg 17257. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King Shippensburg.

L. Paxton Worcester, three brothers, Ralph E. Paxton Jr. and Robert E. Paxton, both of Carlisle, and Terry L.

Paxton, RD2 Shippensburg; a stepdaughter, Dawn M. Jones, RD1 Newville, and a stepson, Samuel E. Manley, Mechanicsburg. Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N.

Hanover Carlisle. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with expenses. Virgie Mae Heller Virgie Mae Heller, 88, of 540 Nawakwa Road, Biglerville, died Thursday evening at Gettysburg Hospital. She was born and resided in Adams County her entire life.

She was the daughter of the late Harvey S. and Rebecca Mae Warren Beamer. She was a member of Wenksville United Methodist Church and the Ladies' Sunday School Class; the Women's Society of Christian Service and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Arendtsville Fire Company. Her husband, Elmer H. (Mike) Heller, died in November 1983.

She is survived by two daughters, Marvel E. Kump of Biglerville and Shirley M. Cashman of Arendtsville; two sons, Glenn R. Heller and Paul E. Heller, both of Biglerville; three sisters, Isabelle Black of Aspers, Elsie Warren of Bendersville and Hazel Boone of Abbotstown; two brothers, Percy Beamer of Aspers and Arthur Beamer of York; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Dugan Funeral Home i in Bendersville with the Rev. G. Franklin Gray and Rev. Maurice E.

Black officiating. Burial will be in Wenksville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggests donations be made to Wenksville United Methodist Church, RD1, Biglerville 17307. Verna G.

Sowers Verna G. Sowers, 80, of RD2 Gardners, died Friday morning at her home. She was the widow of Gordon K. Sowers and was born in Cumberland County to the late Harry and Esther Myers Fanus. She was retired from C.H.

Musselman Company, Gardners, and a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Surviving are her son, Richard K. Sowers of Gardners; a daughter, Shirley V. McLaughlin of Carlisle; two brothers, Parker Fanus of Gardners and Sheldon Fanus of Police Perry motorist killed in crash An RD1 Loysville woman died in a one-car accident in Perry County Friday afternoon.

State police at Newport said Joan I. McGarvey, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Jim Nickels. Police said the 3 p.m. accident occurred on State Route 17 in northeast Madison Township. Ms.

McGarvey's car was traveling north on Route 17 when she struck a concrete bridge, causing her to lose control of her car, police said. Police said the car crossed the left side of the road and struck a culvert, which caused it to overturn. Ms. McGarvey was ejected from the car and the car came to rest on its roof on top of her, police said. Blain Fire Department and ambulance assisted at the scene, police said.

Mt. Holly woman charged in crash A Mt. Holly Springs woman is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a March 27 accident. Mt. Holly Springs police said a summons has been sent to Donna L.

Mohler's car was southbound on Baltimore when it collided with a motorcycle driven by Michael R. Brown, 17, 5 Mill Mt. Holly Springs. The motorcycle was also southbound at the crest of a hill and police said Brown was braking to turn right onto Watt Street. Brown and his passenger, Brian McKenzie, 17, of 16 Park Mt.

Holly Springs, were thrown from the motorcycle. All three accident victims were treated at Carlisle Hospital for injuries. Police arrest 7 for liquor violations Pennsylvania state police in the Harrisburg district investigated 810 complaints and checked 252 licensed establishments in March, according to the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement. Troopers wrote 70 citations to businesses that violated state liquor laws. In addition, they arrested six minors for underage drinking and one person for operating a speakeasy.
