FARGO (AP) While members of North Dakota's Trade Mission came home with no formal orders for hard red spring wheat or durum, they did get a proposal from the owner-manager of an irrigation development area in the Jordanian desert.

He told them, "Our people know about sheep and the loss of 3-5 per cent of the flock to natural causes during the year doesn't inflict irreparable economic harm, but we don't know about cows. The latter stone was procured from the Crater of Diamonds near Mur-freesboro, Arkansas. Three other famous stones found in the area are the Elsenhower, the Gary Moore, and the Star of Arkansas. The Eisenhower is a 3.11 carat diamond found in 1957. It has been retained in its rough form which resembles the profile of President Elsenhower. Mrs.

Ruth McRae of Texas, Its discoverer and owner, had It mounted as a pendant. In 1960 a 6.43 carat yellow flawless gem was discovered by Neils Bach. He named it the Gary Moore after the well-known radio and television personality who had recently visited the mine. A New York firm set the stone's value at $6000. The Star of Arkansas In its 15.31 carat rough form proved to be flawless and colorless I After being cut to a long narrow shallow 8.27 carat marquise, it was valued at $11,000 to $15,000.

Its fine quality and rarity for an American stone soon brought about a reappraisal at $25,000 to $100,000. Perhaps you are now wondering how cutting, color, clarity, and carat weight affect the value of a stone. I will cover this topic in a later article. However, I can personally answer this and other questions and show you some gleaming examples at my store. There's no charge for asking, no charge for looking.
