1 Buyers, sellers strike balance NEW YORK (UPI) The stock market was spinning its wheels early Tuesday' afternoon, with some traders cashing in on recent profits and others shopping for bargains. Turnover was moderate. Even though the economic news background was grim, analysts said mutual funds and institutions were becoming more enthusiastic about the stock market because they are loaded with cash and interest rates are ing. But the market has had such a large and lengthy spring rally it is due for retrenchment, brokers said. They don't look for a severe setback, however.

Against this background, the Dow Jones industrial average, which lost 3.50 points Monday, was ahead 0.08 points to 847.43 around 12:15 p.m. CDT. The closely watched average rallied for a 100-point gain over the last six weeks. At 1 p.m. Tuesday the Dow Jones stood at 848.54 up 1.19.

The New York Stock Exchange index was ahead 0.04 to 63.26 and the price of a share was up 2 cents. Declines led advances, 700 to 581, among the 1,741 issues crossing the New York Stock Exchange tape. New York Stock Exchange 1: p.m. quotations Provided by A. G.

Bishop, 86, Havensville, was Monday morning at the Havensville Christian Church, the Rev. Ora Martindale officiating. Burial was in Havensville Cemetery.

Mr. Bishop died Saturday at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was born Jan. 9, 1894, at Lincoln. He farmed in the Havensville area 1946 until nine years ago when he retired and moved to Havensville.

Mr. Bishop was a World War I veteran and a member of Glen Nichols Post No. 333 of the American Legion at Havensville. Surviving are his wife, Leatha, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Cline and Mrs.

Mary McDougal, both of Havensville, and Mrs. Helen Rose, Onaga; two sons, Glen, Delia, and Carl, 416 W. Claflin, Salina; a twin brother, Clinton, 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society. The Tessendorf Mortuary, Onaga, was in charge.

CLEON A. BISHOP LEE E. SHIRLEY MANKATO The funeral for Lee E. Shirley, 79, Mankato, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kramer Funeral Home, Mankato, the Rev.

James Swank officiating. Burial will be in the Ionia, Cemetery. Mr. Shirley died Sunday at Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit. He was born April 27, 1901, at Lucas.

He was a former school teacher, and had farmed in Jewell County for about 25 years. Surviving are his wife, Berniece, of the home; a son, Bob, Joplin, two daughters, Betty Ann Shirley and Mrs. Martha Randall, both of Silver Springs, two brothers, Russell, Haysville, and Ralph, Loveland, four sisters, Aileen Shirley, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Marie Stohr and Juverna Shirley, both of Cuba, N.M., and Mrs. Gwennetta Alderson, Emporia, and one grandchild.

The family suggests memorials to the 4-H club of the donor's choice. LEEROY DOTY CLEARWATER The funeral for LeeRoy Doty, 54, Wichita, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Webb Mortuary Chapel, Clearwater, the Rev. C.W. Patrick officiating.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kingman. Mr. Doty died Saturday at his home. He was born Jan.

21, 1926, at Natoma. He had lived at Stockton for 17 years and was a grain elevator operator. Mr. Doty had made his home in Wichita for the last several years and was employed as a salesman for Security Equipment. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Surviving are his wife, Wyona, of the home; two sons, Dennis, Salina, and Bruce, Reserve, two stepsons, Kris Keller, Bozeman, and Terry Keller, San Diego, his parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Paul Doty, Natoma; two brothers, Arvin, Natoma. and Larry, Stockton; four sisters, Mrs. Pauline Finch, Luray; Mrs. Lorene Miller, Turpin, Mrs.

Shirley Sarver, Plainville, and Mrs. Karen Armbrister, Salina, and seven grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association. Friends may call at the mortuary. LLOYD R.

PETERMAN ELLSWORTH The funeral for Louis A. Peterman, 71, Ellsworth, will be Thursday at the Grubb-Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Details will be announced by the funeral home. Mr. Peterman died Tuesday.

EMANUEL GEIST OSBORNE The funeral for Emanuel Geist, 53, Osborne, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell, the Rev. Basil Torrez officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr.

Geist died Sunday in a car accident near Quinter. He was born May 29, 1927, at Grinnell. Lane died May 29 at Duarte, Calif. She was born Dec. 3, 1890, at Winston, Mo. A longtime resident of Tescott, she moved to California in 1937 after the death of her husband. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are one son, William Lane, Little Rock, two daughters, Mrs. Arrahbella Bond, Lincoln, and Mrs. Arrahwanna Morrison, Duarte, one sister, Mrs. Birdie Perseis, Kansas City, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials to the church.

She was born Jan. 18, 1900, in Wayne, and moved to Jewell in 1943. She was a housewife and a member of the Trinity Methodist Church. Her husband, John, died in 1971. Surviving are one son, Roland, and two daughters, Mrs.

Wilma Donker and Mrs. Thelma Sahlfeld, all of Beloit; two brothers, Clarence Knowlton, Randall, and Harold Knowlton, Waterloo, two sisters, Ethyl Knowlton, Randall, and Mrs. Lavina Clover, Waterloo, 27 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. MRS. CHARLES E. HALEY DELPHOS The funeral for Mrs. Nellie L. Haley, 98, Delphos, will be at 10:30 a.m.

She was born Jan. 16, 1882, in Ottawa County. She had lived in Ottawa County most of her life, and she and her husband had farmed at Wells, Douglas, Benton and several other Kansas communities prior to moving to Delphos. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a son, Melvin, Wichita; two daughters, Mrs.

KIRKENDALL ELLSWORTH The funeral for Cedric L. Kirkendall, 86, Ellsworth, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the GrubbParsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, the Rev. L. Fred Houston officiating.

Burial will be in the Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery with military and Masonic graveside rites. Mr. Kirkendall died Sunday in Corpus Christi, Tex. He was born Feb 20, 1894, at Natoma, and was a lifetime resident of the Ellsworth area. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the World War I Barracks, American Legion, VFW, American Association of Retired Persons, the Masonic Lodge all of El-Isworth, and the Natoma Alumni Association His wife, Vergie, died May 6, 1979.

Thursday until the service at the funeral home. CLIFFORD C. MORRIS LINDSEY Funeral arrangements for Clifford C. Morris, 89, Lindsey, will be announced by the Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Mr.

Morris died Monday at the Ottawa County Hospital, Minneapolis. He was born Sept. 16, 1890, at Emmerson, Iowa. He came to Kansas in 1908 and was a farmer and stockman in the Lindsey area since 1920. He was one of the oldest members of the First Methodist Church, Minneapolis.

Surviving are his wife, Edna, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Flemming, Salinas, and Mrs. Mildred Moorman, Columbus, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials to the Ottawa County Hospital, Minneapolis. CHARLES (CHUCK) LEWIS HOISINGTON The funeral for Charles (Chuck) Lewis, 72, Hoisington, will be announced by the Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, New Cambria. Mr. Lewis died Monday at his home. He was born June 27, 1907, in Boscabel, Wisc. He worked for Kansas Power and Light in Salina and was a retired draftsman and engineer.
