Buyers, sellers strike balance Ulilhs NEW YORK (UPI) The stock market was spinning its wheels early Tuesday afternoon, with some traders cashing in on recent profits and others shopping for bargains. Turnover was moderate. Even though the economic news background was grim, analysts said mutual funds and institutions were becoming more enthusiastic about the stock market because they are loaded with cash and interest rates are declining. But the market has had such a large and lengthy spring rally it is due for retrenchment, brokers said. They don't look for a severe setback, however.

Against this background, the Dow Jones industrial average, which lost 3.50 points Monday, was ahead 0.08 points to 847.43 around 12:15 p.m. CDT. The closely watched average rallied for a 100-point gain over the last six weeks. At 1 p.m. Tuesday the Dow Jones stood at 848.54 up 1.19.

The New York Stock Exchange index was ahead 0.04 to 63.26 and the price of a share was up 2 cents. Declines led advances, 700 to 581, among the 1,741 issues crossing the New York Stock Exchange tape. New York Stock Exchonge 1 p.m. quotations Provided by A. G.
