May 15. —(UP)— Garages had plenty of fender and body repair work yesterday all because of a bus that caused * chain-reaction series of accidents. The bus skidded into the rear of a car on the Market Street bridge during a rainstorm. The car hit another and finally [our cars, all told, and the bus were dented. Police Patrolman W. L. Kamp£- chafter was called to the scene. He stopped on the Walnut Street Bridge to avoid hitting other cars, which had collided, and a. car behind him ran into his. CIO Steelworkers Vof« To Bar Communists BOSTON, May IS. —(UP)— The CIO steelworkers national convention voted almost unanimously yesterday to bar Communist Party members and supporters from hold- Ing office in the union. Only delegate Robert Ratner, Los Angeles, opposed the measure from the floor. His question, "Who's go- Ing to be the judge of who's a Communist?" was shouted down by the. convention. Thirteen other delegates rose to urge adoption of the resolution without change. The resolution was proposed by Chairman James G. Thimmes of the union's Constitutional Amendments Committee. Two of Three BuriedMiners AreRescued SHAMOKIN, Pa, May 15. (UP)_ Tvo miners entombed In a flooded xe for more than 72 hours were •cued today. Their companion la missing. The survivors, Arthur Peter Gordon, 32, and Edward Heck, 41 both of Shamokin, were rushed to Sham- okm Hospital In an ambulance that had been on the scene since late Wednesday. Hospital physicians said the two men were in "fair" condition but suffering from shock. Gordon and Heck were rescued at 4 a.m. CST, several hour* after rescue crews had piped food and medical supplies to their chamber 150 feet below the surface. At 2 a.m., the rescue teams began the final push to liberate th« trapped m en. digging through a 15- foot coal barrier. It *as not known immediately exactly how the men were Treed because of the excitement at the scene, but the rescue workers had hoped to float a rubber raft af«s 3, water-filled gangway whichTed to the victims' chamber- Verbal contact with the two men as made last night when two rescue workers approached to wfthin 12 feet of them by lying flat on a raft and floating down the gangway, 150 feet underground. Their progress was blocked when the ceil^ ing came o within inches of the -surface of the water.
