PAGE SEVEN Tigers Smother Gamecocks 27-0 In Gridiron Classic 19,000 See Clemson Win Colorful Game Powerful Tiger Eleven, Sparked by McFadden, Takes 6th Game in Row: Tallies in First, Second and Fourth COLUMBIA, Oct. 19. (AP)The powerful Clemson Tigers, by the brilliant Banks McFadden, smote the hapless South Carolina Gamecocks with fury and forece today to win a decisive 27-0 victory in their annual State Fair gridiron classic.

A crowd estimated at 19.000 saw the masterful Tigers rack up their 25th victory out of 37 games in the colorful series they started in 1896 and run the string of consecutive Carolina defeats to six. The Gamecocks, despite gallant efforts, were held almost completely in check by the superior all-round play of the Tigers. The first Clemson touchdown came ten minutes after the opening kickoff and from there on the Tigers were constantly storming the Gamecock defenses for long gains. Except in the last quarter, the Gamecocks never showed any sustained offensive. Their ball-carriers could never shake themselves loose because the blockers failed clear the way.

The Clemson defense, was too good, and several promising gains nullified by penalties. On the other hand, the Tiger blocking was superb and the speedy backs had little trouble in reeling off substantial gains. The lineups: Pos. The No. 1 attraction in this array, of course, will be the clash at Knoxville between Tennessee and Alabama.
