Philadelphia, June 12. The Firemen's Parade Inauguration of the Franklin Statue A Serenade Pranks of a Mad Animal, The delegates from the various companies of the fire department met last night at the district coun room, and fixed upon tte route for the parade in October next. The route of the procession in the year 1S52 was eleven miles long; the present route is about eight. In IS 19 the procession had a route of nineteen miles long. The present route is calculated to make the best display in the densely populated parts of the city, with due regard to abbreviation.

The procession promises to be unusually large and imposing. The inauguration of the Franklin statue took place yesterday afternoon. Ten lodges of Odd Fellows joined in the procession and were accompanied by six bands of music. The ceremonies were in accordance with the original design and program, and were participated in with that interest characteristic of the order. The "minute men of '70," and a number of his yersonal admirers, me: last nigh a id serenaded the Hon.

Jacob Broom, the nominee of the American party for the Supreme Bench. The vicinity of 'Fourth and Pine streets was thrown into great excitement yesterday afternoon by the appearance of a mad bull, who played some frightful antics, and pursued, the passers by at a fearful rate. One man was gored in the face and serious)' injured, and another had his clothing considerably torn. Several others made narrow escapes. The bll was finally captured by a pesse of police, who tied him to a furniture car and led him off to the place of his owner.

This might be the case unless our government, for good" and weighty reasons, should desire to avail themselves of the opportunity presented for getting rid of the Clayton-liulwer treaty.

But it appears plain enough that the Clayton- Buhver treaty might be so modi-Hid, or rather explained, by a supplemental treaty, as to meet all its original objects. It appears to be very remarkable that after three months' consideration, the United States naval officers, electricians, and engineers, all combined, foiled to discover or suspect that the United States steam frigate Niagara was wholly unfit for the service to perform which she was sent to England. But the fict Is now admitted to Vse so. May Jiot the same ingenious men have made some OthcT mistakes, in relation to the same subject? Other difficulties, yet unforeseen, may arise. It would appear that there is really more doubt as to the successful laying of the cable than as to the working of the wire.

Professor Morse has become more firmly convinced than ever, in regard to the latter point, since his conferences on the subject with eminent European electricians. The world is not, it is to be hoped, to be disappointed in the realization of a project which Will, for the purposes of correspondence, annihilate time and space; and, perhaps, effect more than commerce itself has ever yet done for the promotion of the welfare of mankind. The citizens' meeting held here yesterday was, it is said, harmonious and quiet, dignified and imposing. The apprehension that it would end in a riotwas wholly without foundation, as the event proved. The proceedings and resolutions of the meeting were very proper as far as they went; but it would have been well if the citizens had gone a little further, and insisted upon a thorough and searching investigation into the circumstances attending the late riot, and upon the detection and punishment of those who may be found to be responsible for it.

Ion. Correspondence of the Baltimore Sun. Washington, June 12. Death of Major George McNeir Another National Hotel Victim Fatal Affray Sales of Property XT. S.

Ship Plymouth Arrival of Gen. Walker Sunday Trips to Baltimore. Anofher of the brave veterans who distinguished themselves in the war with Great Britain has departed. Major George McNeir, formerly of Annapolis, in your State, expired this morning from the effects of disease contracted at the National Hottl. where he dined on the of Janua ry last.

He had just passed the 63d year of his age. During the invasion of his State by the enemy he was promptly at the post of duty, and was ever found amongst the foremost in the hour of daDger and conflict. For many years the deceased filltd the office of postmaster at Annapolis With great acceptability, ar.d soon after establishing his residence at the seat of government, was appointed an officer in the House of Representatives, in which capacity he had charge of the funeral cortege which accompanied the remains of ex-President John Quincy Adams to Massachu-sents. Recently he was reappointed by President Buchanan one of the judges of the Levy Court for the county of Washington. During the space of forty-five years MajorMcNeir has been an exemplary member filling many important official stations in the Methedist Episcopal Church.

The veterans of the war of 1312 are leaking extensive arrangements to attend his funeral on Sunday afternoon next. The National Intelligencer furnishes thefoi; lowing recount of another homicide which yesterday afternoon occurred here: "A scene of violence and bloodshed 1 was en acted at the lager beer saloon of Jos. Gerhard, on Maryland aveDue, near its intersection with the canal. Three men from Alexandria, said to be named Rudd, Smith and Hall, and two from tie navy-yaTd, called for and obtained drink at Gerhard's, for which they refused to pay. An altercation consequently ensued, in which Mrs.

Gerhard participated; and at length blows were passed, the barkeeper, Henry Shulte, assisting his employers. The parties passing out into the avenue, sticks and stones were freely used, until Gerhard advanced with a pistol, which he Js in the habit of keeping in his bar, and fired at the assailants. The shot took effect on one of the Alexandrians, when Gerhard prepared to fire a second time. At this instant the barkeeper turned himself around in front of Gerhard, and fo received the shot intended for the other party full in the breast. Poor Shulte fell and almost instantly expired.

Gerhard was soon arrested and the' case examined by Justice Donn, who, after bearing twenty-one witnesses, held Gerhard to baiLin the sum of S3, 000 to appear at the coming term of the criminal court. John Robinson, one of the navy-yard men was subsequently arrested as a participant in the riot, and Leld to $300 bail for further examination. The Alexandrians took to flight homewards, but officers have been dispatched to Alexandria to secure their arrest as fugitives from justice." J. C. Tavoniski, and Governor Wright, of Indiana, were among the passengers who arrived herein the eleven o'clock train ol cars this morning. On and after Sunday next the four and-a-half o'clock train of cars for Baltimore will leave at twenty minutes past four o'clock. Many of our citizens will rejoice to leara that a Sunday trip, leaving at 7 a. ni. ar.d returning from Baltimore at a quarter past 5 o'clock p.

will also be established on Sunday next. The appearance of the Potomac river indicates heavy raina above, which are especially discouraging to the prospects of canal navigation. The commencement of repairs on the Lon" bridge, loo, have been delayed by powerful currents. It is said that some of our steamers will be compelltd by the scarcity of coal to return to the u.Te of pine wood. Meecdey.

The speeches were full of sympathy for the general, and hope of the future success of his cause, with him as its champion.

The rumor that Mr. Consolyea had disposed ot his estate before judgment is said to be incorrect. The plaintiff waived the costs and perfected judgment within five minutes after the rendition of the verdict for $10,000. About eight hours afteiward Mr. Conselyea executed a deed of $32,000 worth of real estate to his mother, which deed was recorded the day after the verdict was rendered, thus leaving the judgment a Hen on all that property.

Another deed of blood was perpetrated on Wtdnefday night, owing to intemperance. It appears that Samuel Keys, a plasterer, residing in JHoyt street, Brooklyn, came home after night, and finding bis wife lying on the bed, drunk, beat her in so brutal a manner that she died within an Lour. It is said the wretch struck her on the bead with a hammer, broke her jaw bone and injured both eves.
