Once you start washing with yogurt, it's only a small step to crushing berries for rouge. 'Sanctuary Of Fear' Collars Barnard Hughes By MARY ANN COOPER Barnard Hughes embraces life with such gusto that it leaves him very little time to reflect upon the past. Catch him between his matinee and evening performance of the outstanding Tony-winning Broadway show and he'll pause just long enough to admit, "I've stumbled onto a wonderful way of making a living." After capturing the hearts of New Yorkers for his poignant yet whimsical Tony-winning portrayal of an Irish father in Hughes looks ahead to his latest project the title role in the world premiere movie 'Sanctuary of April 16th on NBC-TV. The movie is based on the short-story series by C.K. Chesterton.

In this updated version, the Father Brown character is a modern-day, crime-solving clergyman who befriends a young woman innocently embroiled in a series of bizarre incidents. "It's a wonderful character that people won't tire of. Father Brown has energy. And it takes energy to hold the thread of things together in a show of this type," Hughes explains. The two-hour mystery movie was shot on location in New York City which pleased Hughes immensely.

"The city looks fabulous, and it provides a striking contrast to the gentle quality of Father Brown." Since his emergence as a TV star in the series 'Doc' one role has been leading to the next for this versatile actor. His Emmy award-winning performance on 'Lou Grant' was indirectly responsible for his landing the Father Brown role. While filming the segment, Edward Asner told him about the part. Hughes became instantly enchanted with the idea of playing the priestly sleuth, and NBC agreed that he was perfect for the role. Although Hughes is a self-proclaimed "theater actor," he is enthusiastic about the prospects of the film becoming a weekly series.

"I know the show a good one. I really enjoyed doing it and seeing it. I'm ready to settle into it." Before the curtains open for the evening performance of he laughs as he remembers what someone said to him backstage. "Barney." the man exclaimed, "your life's turned out just the way you wrote it." And if Hughes has his way. he won't be the least bit disappointed if 'Sanctuary of Fear' spins off into a series and becomes a prominent "chapter" in his "book." ff FIRST I NATIONAL I BANK JJ If you're willing to jump rope, give up red meat, salt and alcohol and look upon each part of your body as another battle in the war on unsightliness, Adrien Arpel says she can make you beautiful.

The above are just a few of the rules in the beauty expert's best-selling guide to gorgeousness, "Adrien Arpel's 3-Week Crash Makeover-Shapeover Beauty Program." The guide claims to be able to get even the busiest and laziest among us on the right track. And you don't need a fortune to do it. It turns out all of great-granny's beauty tricks were on target all along. Have hair trouble? Slather some mayonnaise on. Need a face mask? Use an egg white.

Yellowing fingernails? Stick them in a lemon. Need a soothing bath? Throw salt and baking soda in the water. It's that easy. Of course, real industrious sorts can move on to mixing astringents, toners and cleansers made from an assortment of supermarket items. There's a lot of experience behind Ms.

'fflGHCLIFFE MANOR, NEW COMEDY WITH SHELLEY FABARES, STEPHEN McHATTTE, SET IN ISLAND CASTLE HOUSING ECCENTRIC SCIENTISTS AND PHILOSOPHERS Popular television star Shelley Fabares and Stephen McHattie, who received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Jake Pasquinel in NBC-TV's "Centennial," will star in the new comedy "High-cliffe Manor," which premieres as a limited series on NBC-TV Thursday, April 12 p.m. NYT). Trie setting for the Gothic comedy is an immense stone castle on an island off the coast of Massachusetts.

The mansion serves as headquarters for the Blacke Foundation a quasi-think tank facility which houses eccentric scientists and philosophers who are supposed to be working on solutions to world oroblems. Fabares stars as widow Helen Straight Blacke, whose husband has just died in an explosion while rjerforming an experiment. Helen possesses a combination of good sense and unflappable composure; however, she is naive and runs the corporation as if she were chaperoning a prom. She is unaware that her trusted board of directors has turned its energies toward "dumping her" rather than toward more serious problems. McHattie stars as Ian Glen-ville, a clergyman from South Africa who claims he arrived on the island via canoe from his former home.

Though the sophisticated Ian is devoted to religion, he has caroused and bluffed his way through every exotic port in the world. A womanizer, he pursues Helen with all his romantic wiles. Other residents of Highcliffe Manor are Frances Kiskadden, a brilliant scientist, played by series co-creator and co-producer Eugenie Ross-Leming; Wendy (Audrey Landers), a cute cheerleader-secretary; and Felix Morger (Gerald Gordon), the attractive but very eccentric former assistant to Helen's late husband. Also, Bram (Christian Marlowe), a man with mechanical limbs who is a prisoner in Kiskadden's lab; Rebbeca (Jenny O'Hara), the maid; Dr. lister (David Byrd); Dr.
