About Advertising No. 7. The first Insertion of an advertisement very seldom pays.

That Is to say if you have never advertised before In a certain paper It will take some little time for its readers to get acquainted with yon, and until they do, don't expect much return. There are occasional exceptions, of course, but they are few and far between. It is the systematic, persistent effort that pays in advertising as In everything else. In taking medicine the regularity of the dose Is almost as Important as the drug Itself. For that reason the columns of the news paper offer the very best medium for busi ness announcements.

The local newspaper goes into the bouse bristling with Intelligence, brimful of the news of the world, sparkling with the dally doings of the community. If its advertisers are awake to their opportunities It contains business news of value to every reader, for it pays to read advertisements. A Lift and Dtalb Fight. Mr A. trine nf Manr.hp.stpr.

Have Appealed to Supreme Court Con- cernlng Their Legal Status. Philadelphia Ledger.l Contlgent upon the action of the Supreme Court on an appeal from the decisional Judge Weiss, of Dauphin ooun-ty, the National Council of the Junior Order United American Mechanics will hold Its next annual Convention in Buffalo in June, 1901. This was determined upon yesterday at the close of the three days' session of the annual meeting which was held in Odd Fellows' Temple. Tbis decision of Judge Weiss's hss had much to do with the proceed logs of the National Council in its annual eeesion. In a case which was recently tried before him, and in which the Order was one of the parties in litigation, Judge Weiss decided that as the Order is a Pennsylvania corporation, having been incorporated in this city In 1893, all corporate acts done by the National Council of the Order are illegal, unless they have been performed within the confines of the State of Pennsylvania.

According to this ruling the National Council of the Order must hold its meetings in this State if Its proceed, logs are to be recognized as legal. This ruling has been appealed to the Supreme Court, but no decision has yet been given on the point. The National Council, during the session which has just closed, In order, however, to be on the safe side, in case Judge Weiss's ruling is sustained, devoted much of its time to the ratification of the proceedings of previous Conventions which have been held outside the State of Pennsylvania. At yesterday 7a session the question of a readjustment of representation in the National Council led to a letigthy discussion. It was eventually decided to reduce the representation in the central body from 118 to 93, a fact whicn will contribute materially to the reduction of expenses.

By this action aLd by adopting other plans of retrenchment it is calculated that a sum of S5000 will be saved on the annual expenses cf the National Council. How'iTh'? We offer One Hundred Dollars Reward for any case of Catarrh that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. F. 1. Cheney Props.
