A sentence appeared in a column on Page 6A of The Times and Democrat Saturday that was incorrect. Under the headline "The Rise And Fall Of SCSC," the sentence was in the next-to-last paragraph and read as follows: "Surely they don't allow feelings of resentment at the success of a yellow coach creep into their decisions." The sentence as written by sports editor Marty McGee was as follows: "Surely they don't allow feelings of resentment at the success of a fellow coach to creep into their decisions." Dotson's scoring pass came on the third play after the first fumble, but his scoring run was on the first play after the recovery.

Both teams fumbled frequently, The Citadel committing three times but recovering two of them. Appalachian State fumbled five times and lost four of its miscues. The Citadel also took advantage of three pass Interceptions. Snaring them were Ellis Johnson, Brian Ruff and Billy Long. Ruff's and Long's interceptions cut off last period drive attempts by Appalachian.

One of Appalachian's fumbles came with less than four minutes In the game to stop a threat at The Citadel 4. Johnson's long scoring run featured his 172 yards gained for the afternoon, and helped boost his No.2 national total for yards gained this season to 956. Richard Patrick was the leading rusher for Appalachian State with 11 yards. Holt caught five passes for 68 yards. Dotson completed five of nine passes for 78 yards.

Nettles made another field goal for the Aggies in the third quarter and it was 7-6 going into the final period. He kicked his third field goal in the fourth quarter, putting North Carolina ahead 9-7. Then fullback Donald Barnes made a 1-yard run for Howard, giving the Bisons the game. (AP) Quarterback Stewart Leslie threw two touchdown passes Saturday to lead Newberry's football team to a 48-7 rout of St. Leo College. Halfback Kenny Brown, who also scored on a 56-yard run, caught Leslie's first scoring pass for 36 yards. Stewart later teamed with Bill Longshore for a 52-yard scoring pass play. St.

Leo's only score came on a 72-yard pass to receiver Steve Steen from quarterback Rick Stokes in the first quarter. Steen's touchdown gave St. Leo a short-lived 7-7 tie. Newberry's Ron Harwell had scored on a seven-yard run earlier in the first. Newberry, now 2-4, also got touchdowns on runs of 16 yards by Rufus Johnson, 11 yards by Glen Miller and one yard by Greg Follwood.

(AP) Kenny Davis set up two touchdowns with an interception and a recovered fumble as Western Carolina throttled Presbyterian, 28-10, in a Saturday night football game. Darrell Lipford scored in the last quarter on the first play after Davis returned an intercepted pass 53 yards to the Presbyterian five. GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) Sophomore Larry Robinson scored two first half touchdowns on short runs and quarterback Charles Elvington sneaked over in the closing seconds of the game for a third Furman score Saturday as the Paladin football team defeated Wofford 21-10. Jimmy Hodge ran 12 yards for Wofford's second period touchdown and Al Clark kicked a 37-yard field goal for the losing Terriers in the third period. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for independent Wofford, now 4-2, and Furman of the Southern Conference moved to 4-3 by breaking a two-game losing streak. Robinson ran for 111 yards in 31 rushes to lead Furman's ground game, which netted 244 yards.

Scott Tilley ran for 102 yards on 17 rushes for Wofford. Furman scored the first time it got the ball, moving 47 yards in eight plays. Robinson went over from the two with 9: 38 left of the opening quarter. A fumble recovery on the Terrier 21 set up the Paladins' second period score. Robinson banged over from the one on the sixth play of the short drive with 7:24 left of the half.

Wofford put together a seven play, 72-yard march in the second period for its touchdown. Hodge scored from the 12 with 3:36 left. A punt that traveled only six yards to Wofford's 34 in the third period set up Clark's field goal after Wofford was unable to move into touchdown territory. A Carter Davis pass was intercepted on the Wofford 20 with 1:28 left in the game and, after a personal foul moved the ball to the Terrier nine, Elvington sneaked over three plays later from the one. (AP)-Ver-satile Mike Robinson scored three touchdowns to lead Lenoir Rhyne's football team to a 38-12 Carolinas Conference victory over Mars Hill Saturday night. As a wide receiver, Robinson caught a nine-yard scoring pass from halfback Scott Crawford for the Bears' first touchdown in the second period. After Crawford was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct in the third period, Robinson replaced him at halfback and scored on a four-yard run. Later, back as a receiver, he scored on a 19-yard end around play. Greg Corpening, who scored from a yard out, gained 151 yards in 19 carries for the Bears who were playing their first league game and are 5-1-1 overall.

Crawford gained 130 yards in 17 carries before his ejection, 110 in the first half. The Bears netted 440 yards on a school record 74 rushes. SUDDEN STOP-Wofford College quarterback Carter Davis is brought to a sudden stop by Furman's Jimmy Griffin in Saturday afternoon football action at Greenville's Sirrine Stadium.
