Pa. PUBLIC SALE or PERSONAL PROPERTY Owners BusineK a I'sual Despite his advanced years, Ogilby conducted his business in the office at his home as usual today, stopping frequently to receive felicitations from his many friends. While he is known in his native Carlisle as an insuranceman and realtor, he has not always followed this business. For 26 years he wai a pharmacist in a Philadelphia drug store chain, a. large part of that time as manager of a store and later as a partner.

He returned to Carlisle when there was a decline in his health and it was after he had recuperated that he entered the real estate and the insurance business. Ogilby was born, on Feb. 15, 1863, a few months before the turning point of the Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg. His parents were the late Joseph W. and Anna M.

Myers Ogilby. After graduating from Carlisle High School in 1879, Ogilby decided to learn the drug business. He went to Philadelphia in 1S80 to enter the employe of the Blair chain and was assigned to the store at Eighth and Walnut streets. At the same time he studied at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy from which he received his degree. His first assignment upon graduation was at the Blair store at E.

Keceemaa Auctioneer Eighth and Walnut streets where he had charge of the prescription department. The chain also had a store at 18th and Chestnut streets, and Ogilby served at both places. In 1887 Ogilby was placed in charge of the Blair store at 18th and Chestnut streets a block away from the fashionable Rittenhouse Square district. He soon became a partner in the business, known as Blair and Ogilby. His partner, Andrew Blair, died in 1898.

The burden of running the store for the next nine years undermined his health requiring him to retire for four years to recuperate. He returned to Carlisle for that period but not wishing to be idle, he said, he became interested in civic and other activities of the community. Active in Church Ogilby, the oldest native resident of Carlisle, became active in the First Lutheran Church. He served as a member of the church council for 30 years and was its secretary for 25 years. He also was president of the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday School.

Subsequently he wrote a history of the Sunday School and read it at an anniversary.
