OF CALL TO ACTION; Notes of the EditoVs Opening Addles at Exeter Hall, May 27th, after expounding 2 Peter i. The objective point of the Pentecostal League is to BE what Christ would have us be, and secondly, to DO what Christ would have us do. That is what we desire, and that is what hundreds in this great meetingto-night are determined shall, by the grace of God, be their experience and that of others. That is the desire of many thousands outside these walls, and we believe the need of many in the professing Church throughout the world. People talk about the need of a revival, they eloquently describe the condition of the masses of people around us going down in misery to hell.

They devise many plans to win them for God, some of which they put into execution, only to meet, in too many cases, with discouragement and failure. Why is this so Such people ignore the very meaning of the word revival? which is "to live again," they ignore the fact that revivals begin with Believers, that God's order is that His people must first be blessed and then be used by Him to carry blessing to others. Revivals come from God to His people, and then pass through His people to the unsaved masses. One cause of so much failure in evangelistic effort to-day, is that in too many cases half-saved people (as called them) preach to the altogether lost about sins, and at the same time refuse to let God cleanse their own hearts from the cause of in the heart. They preach about faith, and yet will not themselves trust God to SANCTIFY them WHOI.LV.

say they do not believe in PERFECTION, although God says to them, BK YE THERE- FORK PERFECT, EVEN AS YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN is PERFECT," and again, "HK THAT SAITH HE AHIDETH IN HIM OUGHT HIMSELF ALSO SO TO WALK EVEN AS HE WALKED." The result is to be seen around us on every side: failure, misery and general alarm. Hu man remedies are tried, legislative remedies, philanthropic remedies, and mildly religious remedies. We say thank God for good laws, for philanthropic effort, and for the many so- called religious movements, which have for their object the good of man. But the secret of success is to take God' way, God's methods, and then we can confidently expect God's results. And His way is to begin with His people, to begin with their hearts, and then to work through them in the power of the Holy Spirit upon the ranks of the unsaved.

Turn to Ezek. xxxvi. 23, you will find in this one verse the true secret of evangelistic success, listen to what He says: "I WILL SANCTIFY MY GREAT NAME, WHICH WAS PROFANED AMONG THE HEATHEN, WHICH YE HAVE PROFANED IN THE MIDST OF THEM, AND THE HEATHEN SHALL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD, SAITH THE LORD GOD, WHEN I SHALL BE SANCTIFIED IN YOU BEFORE THRIR EYES." That is the way to get the heathen saved, not only in and India, and China, but in London, and Glasgow, and Manchester, whether they wear black coats or black skins, whether they are respectable or disreputable; God Almighty will be more than a match for the devil when He has the right of way in the hearts and lives and service of His people. We are not talking about what we do not know: we have tried this plan and found it successful. God is answering every day that wonderful prayer of Jesus Christ for His people: "I IN THEM AND THOU IN ME, THAX THEY MAY BE MADE PERFECT IN ONE, AND THAT THE WORLD MAY KNOW THAT THOU HAST SENT ME, AND HAST LOVED THEM AS THOU HAST LOVED ME." He wants to answer it in the case of every believer the wide world over.

We are convinced on the Word of God and the experience of man, that the way to reach the unsaved masses is to carry full salvation to the unsanctified classes in our churches. We are sure that through a fire- baptized ministry and a fire-spreading people, God will so manifestly work that sinners will cry what must we do to be saved," that believers will go on to perfection, and a great revival wave of true religion will spread through the land. That is the one great aim of the Pentecostal League. We have already seen most blessed results, but we believe them to be but the droppings before the storm. This great meeting is no mean token of God's approval of this movement.

What think you of such a crusade Does it not appeal to all that is of God in you Would you like to share in this campaign, in its sufferings, in its victories, and in its rewards Do you not feel it is the will of God for you to join in a movement which has such objects, which rests on such Scriptural basis, which relies on Almighty power, and moves forward with God to certain victory. Then give us your active sympathy and your prayers, let us add your name to the long roll of the Pentecostal League. We do not ask you to leave your church or chapel, we would have you shine for God just where He has placed you. The League is absolutely interdenominational, and has members in every sect and section of true Christians. We ask all those who are in sympathy with the aims and objects of this movement, to join tho League, to induce others to join and form a League Centre, so that, in every place of worship or body of Christians, there may be a body of praying shall be a blessing to their fellow worshippers, a source of encouragement and strength to the minister, and having power with God for men, and power with men for God, be widely used in spreading the knowledge of full salvation.

BIBLE READING IN OUTLINE. Instead of the usual Bible Reading we give the notes of the Editor's exposition of 2 Peter, at Exeter Hall on May 27th. Mr. Reader Harris, after stating that the Pentecostal Mission acccepted the Bible as a sufficient and complete revelation of God's to man, read 2 Peter, with comments as follows. "GRACE AND PEACE." Grace is God's favour, peace is the result of God's favour.

There is a dual experience of peace, 1st, VEACK WITH GOD," and 2nd, "THK PEACE OF GOD WHICH VASSETH ALL UNDERSTANDING." "BE MULTIPLIED UNTO YOU." Multiply your present experience of PEACE by God's all you know of God multiplied by the grace of God. THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD AND OF JESUS OUR LORD." Literally, the full knowledge of God, or the full acknowledging of God acknowledge all you know, of God, acknowledge that yon desire to know more, and you will not have to wait long for the full knowledge. "ACCORDING AS HIS DIVINE POWER HATH GIVEN UNTO US ALL THINGS THAT PERTAIN UNTO LIKE AND GODLINESS." There are two great distinctions here, ist, or the New Birth, 2nd, ''GODLINESS or holiness, the divine nature and likeness. LIKE AS HE WHICH CALLED YOU IS HOLY, SO BE YE HOLY IN ALL MANNER OF i 15. (R.V.).

HE YE THEREFORE PERFECT, EVEN AS YOUR FATHER wHifcH is IN HEAVEN IS PERFECT." v. 48. This is the standard, the only God-given standard of holy being and holy living. "THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE (literally full knowledge) ov HIM THAT HATH CALLED us TO (R.v. His own) GLORY AND VIltTUE." Before the power can be realized Jesus must be glorified, not in heaven only, but in human hearts.

We find the divine order of this blessing in Jude 25, GLORY AND MAJESTY, DOMINION AND POWER." First glorify Jesus, then He will reign in your heart, have dominion in your life, and manifest His power through you. WHEREBY ARE GIVEN UNTO US EXCEEDING GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES." How exceedingly great and precious none know till they accept them, and'trust God to make them experimentally true to them and to others anyone can, however, get an idea of their value if they consider the state of the lost here and hereafter, as God has seen lit to reveal it in the Scriptures then from that awful sight turn to the blessedness of the saved, both here and in the world to come remembering that through these promises of God, and the Saviour who lies behind the promises, men and women may be completely delivered from the one condition, and eternally saved from the other. But the promises of God contain more even than deliverance from hell and admittance into we goon to read "THAT BY THESE YE," the believers to whom Peter was writing, MIGHT BE PARTAKERS OK THE I DIVINE NATURE." When we are BORN AGAIN we are made partakers of Divine Life when we let God SANCTIFY us WHOLLY we are made partakers of the Divine Nature, which is holiness. Holiness is, therefore, conformity to the Divine Nature Righteous ness is conformity to the Divine Law. We are to walk IN HOLINESS AND RIGHTEOUSNESS BEFORE HIM ALL THE DAYS OF OUR LIFE." Notice the order, Holiness of heart first, then Righteousness of Life.

"AND BESIDE AI.LTHISGIVING DILIGENCE ADD TO YOUR FAITH VIKTUE, itc. (R.V. in your faith supply virtue). The Greek word translated add in A.v., and supply in R.V., is the word chorus, the idea being that as the holy heart puts on these divine graces they may form not a single note but a grand harmony. (See the alterations in it.v.).

FOR IF THESE THINGS BE IN YOU AND ABOUND." All who are- HORN AGAIN have these graces of the Spirit, but they do not abound, because, in addition to these graces they still have their opposites; they have FAITH but also a little unbelief; KNOWLEDGE, but with it some remains of prejudice and on throughout the list. The work of Entire Sanctification wrought by God in the heart delivers from these opposites, and leaves the heart full of the graces of the Spirit without their opposites. "THEY MAKE YOU THAT YE SHALL NEITHER BE BARREN NOR UNFRUITFUL IN THE KNOWLEDGE (or acknowledging) OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST." True fruitfulness comes from the union between God and man, and is manifested in holy hearts and righteous lives. BUT HE THAT LACKIMH THESE THINGS IS BLIND AND CANNOT SEE AFAR OFF, AND HATH FORGOTTEN THAT HE WAS PURGED FROM HIS OLD SINS. WHEREFORE THE RATHER BRETHREN, GIVE DILIGENCE TO MAKE YOUJR CALLING AND ELECTION SURE (God calls, we elect to answer God's call to be saints and saintly soul winners): FOB IF YB DO THESE THINGS YE SHALL NEVER FALL: FOR SO AN ENTRANCE SnALL BK MINISTERED (literally chorused) ONTO YOU ABUNDANTLY INTO THE EVERLASTING KINGDOM OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST The chorus will meet us there; the graces of the Spirit will bear not only earthly but heavenly fruit, the souls saved and sanctified, the earthly victories and the heavenly rewards will join in one great continuous hallelujah chorus to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Way of the Cross." Tune "At the Cross," S.S. JOJ. THE way of the cross means sacrifice As to God you yield your all To be laid on the altar, the place of death, Where fire will surely fall. 'Tis the way of the cross, are you willing for this? What does bearing the cross mean to you You who've given all to To God are you wholly true But the way of the cross, do you pass it by. And seek an easier way Than the rough steep road of Calvary Before you day by day As the voice of song and prayer we raise, How easy to say we give all," 'Till some rougher cross lies just before, And sterner is duty's call.

Do you falter then, or true to death, Just die on each cross in the way 'Till the fulness of life from the Living One Is filling you day by day. 'Tis the place of you die to live- One with Jesus crucified; With the life alone to be lived thro' you, Of the risen, the glorified. Mary E. Maxwell. He giveth more Grace." Tune: "Hymns of the Gotpcl," jor.

is my strongest desire, For this my whole nature will pine, Consumed as with heat of a fire, Till I in His image shall shinei No earthling could more covet gold Than I covet the stores of His grace; No thousand times Could socharm, as the smile of His face. I know what the fainting child feels For want of his bread and his rest, I know the keen anguish that steals O'er the bereaved of its best. More intense is the pang of my heart, If He hide for one moment His face I have peace, though all else should depart, If He give me His fulness of grace. If He speak His unspeakable name, If He tell of His unchanging love Then I burn as with fervors of flame, Like the fervors of seraphs above. Like the watcher on storm-fretted sea Looking out thro' the mist and the chill, I long for His haven of rest, But more, to accomplish His will.
