xxv. 22 and Ex. xxix. 42-, 43. Apart from this place there was no sacrifice, hence no forgiveness for sins, no cleansing, no communion with God.

The Psalm describes a soul deprived of access to the tabernacle or temple, and yearning for conscious communion with his God with all the intense longing of which human nature is capable. Verse 4. The blessed condition of those who are abiding in His presence, who have heard their Lord's word: NOW YE ARE CLEAN THROUGH THE WORD I HAVE SPOKEN UNTO YOU. ABIDE IN ME, AND I IN YOU." Jno. xv.

3, 4. Verse 5. The blessed condition of those bent on maintaining their communion with God (R.V.), in whose heart are the highways to Zion, a reference to God's command that His people should appear there three times a year, and thus maintain their communion. Verses 6, 7. If in "new covenant" (Heb.

xii. cxi. Golden "BLESS THE LORD, MY SOUL, AND FORGET NOT ALL HIS Lesson, Psalm ciii. One of the immediate results of being "filled with the Spirit," is, SPEAK INO IN PSALMS AND HYMNS AND SPIRITUAL SONGS, SINGING AND MAKING MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD; GIVING THANKS UNTO GOD." Epfy. 18-20.

In this Psalm the sanctified soul calls on "all that is within it to praise God, then tells of all He is to it, and to recount all His wondrous dealings. Verses 3-5. Causes for rejoicing. His mercy in such a Verses 6-10. His past dealings, and mercy to His people.

1.1-14. Three pictures describing His love: shown, (1) in.His measureless mercy to those who fear Him; (2) in setting between us and our sins; (3) Jn His compassion, tender as that of a father for his children. Verses 15-18. Man, in a very short time passes away; but mercy everlasting to those who obey Him. Verses 19-22.

The Lord acknowledged as King. When the soul can thus truly say of its experience: His kingdom ruleth over all," such a well of joy springs up in the heart that words fail it, to express the volume of love, and gratitude, and praise that bursts forth, and it calls on the angels and all heaven and earth to join in the work of blessing and worshipping such a God and such a Redeemer. Third Week, May 16th-22nd. Daniel and His Companions. i.8-21.

xxxv. 1-10. xxxv. 12-19. Corinthians 20-27.

Golden DAN 11 PURPOSED IN HIS HEART THAT HE WOULD NOT DEFILE HIMSELF WITH THE PORTION OF THE KINGS MEAT. NOR WITH THE WIN WHICH HE J.RAN K. i. 8. Lesson, Daniel i.8-21.

Daniel knew the law forbade him to eat either the blood of fowl or beast (Lev. vii. 26), or to eat any heathen sacrifice. Ex. To eat and drink of these provisions would be to defile himself, and to have fellowship with idols.

There is a reference to this in 1 Cor. x. 18-22. The spiritual teaching is: if a soul would be partaker of the Divine nature, and know real vital union with Christ, the devil must have no part in them, God will not dwell in the heart in which there is sin, see 2 Cor. vi.

16-18; vii. 1. Daniel purposed to be true to God in the face of overwhelming circumstances against only a lad, a captive and stranger at the court of an eastern despot, to think of still serving his God, while every inducement and chance' of advancement appeared dependent on his falling in with idolatry of the land. The result shows that God is worth trusting, not only was Daniel enabled to live a holy life, but he won others to do the same, and God blessed him spiritually and temporally. If you will dare to trust God to cleanse and fill you with Himself, then in spite of all the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil, He will not fail to "STABLISH YOUR HEARTS UNBLAMABLE IN HOLINESS BEFOR'-: GOD." Their kingdom was, typified head of goldafter them, arose the Medo-Persian kingdom, typified by the arms and breast of silver; that in turn was conquered by the Grecians, whose kingdom is represented by the body and thighs of brass theyj again, were overcome by the Romans, the kingdom'typified- by the feet of iron and clay. The Roman kingdom still continues, the nations of which it was originally composed still sway the world, but the day is not far distant when the descend and smite the image of Gentile "world power," as the Psalmist wrote of Him: "THOU SHALT DASH THEM IN PIECES LIKE A POTTER'S VESSEL" (Ps. ii. 9), and then "THE KINGDOMS OF THIS WORLD ARE BECOME THE KINGDOMS OF OUR LORD AND HIS CHRIST; AND HE SHALL REIGN FOR EVER AND EVER." Rev.

2. Lesson, Daniel iii. 13-25. Years before, these three Jews, together with Daniel, boldly owned their God, obeying Him in the matter of food forbidden by th.e law. They now have to face a second and greater test.

A choice between life and position on the one hand, and a fearful death on the other. They choose death rather than deny God. Resting on the promises of God, doubtless amongst others, Isa. xliii. 2, they prove His faithfulness, and in the midst of what seemed death, receive a revelation of Jehovah Himself, Ez.

xxxvi. 23, is fulfilled," THE HEATHEN KNOW THAT" He "is THE LORD." This scene (like that of the Burning Bush, Is. Peniel, is a wonderful picture of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. It is a second blessing, after a second testing. The servant of Christ sees in His Word this promise to baptize him with the Holy Ghost and with fire," he definitely trusts Him to do this, ere long the fire falls, purging his heart from all- sin "BY THE SPIRIT OF JUDGMENT AND THE SPIRIT OF BURNING." Is.

iv. 4. The Spirit baptizes the soul into death to sin and self; then out of that death raises his soul into a one life" with His risen Lord. Hrtw 1 Saviour, That thy me, That be. Channels only, blessed Master, But all Thy; wondrous power Flowing through Thou canst use us Every day and every hour.

MAXWELL. The Bondage of Love. Tune The Lion of Judak." "Hymns of the Gospel," 263. sweet will of God, thou hast girded me round, Like the deep moving currents that girdle the sea; With omnipotent love is my poor nature bound, And this bondage of love sets me perfectly free. For now I have fliuig myself recklessly out, Like a chip on the stream of the Infinite will; I pass the rough rocks with a smile and a shout, And I just let my God His dear purpose fulfill.

I care not for self: all my blisses and pains I gladly yield up to the Mandate above; My crosses and triumphs, my losses and gains, I bury them all in the vortex of love. And now my King Jesus Las all His own way, I wait but to catch His low whisprring word, 'Tis my bliss to lie low 'neaih His sce'ptre's bright sway, For my triumph I see in each step of my Lord. For ever I choose the good will of my God, Its holy, deep riches to love and to know, The serfdom of love doth so sweeten the rod, That its touch maketh rivers of honey to flow. Rpll on, checkered seasons, bring smiles or bring tears, My soul sweetly sails on an infinite li-'e, I shall soon touch the shore of eternity's years, And near the white throne of my Savi. ur abide.
