FIVE THE STANDARD, AXTELL, KANSAS. Thursday, April 3, 1958 Social Events Swanson Vincent Vows Mr. and Mrs. Oscar T. Swanson, Axtell, announce the marriage of their daughter, Jaqueline, to Mr.

Kenneth L. Vincent, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Vincent, Aldrich, Mo. The ceremony was performed March 6, at the First Baptist church of Leavenworth, Kansas with the Rev.

Ray L. Schrader officiating. The bride was attired in a navy blue silk sheath dress with navy and white accessories and wore a corsage of pink roses. The couple was attended by Miss Anita Edwards and Mr. Milton Gallaway.

Halfen Meyer Wedding Miss Patricia Louise Halfen, of Kansas City, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Halfen, Baileyville, became the bride of Sic Donald Ray Meyer, Gerald, son of Mrs. Emma Kreft, Gerald, and Mr. Emil Meyer, St.

Louis, Mo. The ceremony took place Saturday afternoon, March 22 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kiersted, Kansas City, Mo. Dr.

Stewart Patterson of the Westport Presbyterian church, officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride, given in marriage by Mr. Rex Robinett, wore a sheath dress of white nylon acetate lace over acetate taffeta, a gleam of satin extending in two small bows marked the molded empire bodice. A small hat of venise type cotton lace and rhinestones held the tieback veil. She wore an orchid corsage.

The bridegroom wore his Army dress uniform. The bride and groom were attended by the groom's cousin, Betty Kiersted and husband, Mr. John Kiersted. Mrs. Kiersted wore a corsage of white roses.

The mothers of the bride and groom wore corsages of pink and white carnations. The reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kiersted. The beautiful three-tier wedding cake, topped by a miniature bridal couple, was cut by the bride and groom.

The bride is employed as manager in the candy department for Katz Drug Independence, Mo. Mrs. Meyer will join her husband at Camp Carson, when living quarters are found. The bridegroom has been in the Army for the past eight years. The guests attending the wedding were Mr.

and Mrs. Rex Robinett, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mitchell and children, David Lee and Timmie, Mr. and Mrs.

Byron Crago and Miss Jean Halfen, all of Kansas City, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Donnell of Independence, Mo. Out of town guests at the wedding were Mrs. James Halfen and JoAnn, Baileyville; and S-Sgt.

Jas. R. Halfen, Scott AFB, the mother of the groom, Mrs. Fred Kreft and Mr. Kreft, Gerald, and the groom's grandmother, Mrs.

Hale Mustain, Ashland, Mo. Modern Mrs Club The Modern Mrs Home Demonstration Unit met with Mrs. Lucille Johnson Friday, Mar. 21, with ten members, one child and a guest, Mrs. Harold Bergmann, present.

Mrs. Paul Landreth, president, opened the meeting with reading the Club Collect in unison. Mrs. Stanley Johnson, secretary, read the minutes. Roll call was followed by a homemade Easter hat parade.

Mrs. Earl Ely gave a report of her attendance at a horticulture lesson, Giving Care to Flower Plants. The new projects were discussed and whether all members should have their blood typed for the Marshall County Blood Bank, and our community improvement project for the year. Our president urged the memto read more, as this was Nabers tional Library Week. The lesson on Program Planning was given by Mrs.

Harold Bergmann which was well planned and very instructive. brought information on how She to help families solve their problems in changing situations. Lunch was served by the hostess and consisted of white cake, divinity candy, cookies and coffee. The next meeting is April 18 with Mrs. Albert Cain' when a flower exchange will be held.

-Reporter. The Friendship Circle club met Thursday, March 27, with Lillian Slater. The session was opened by Agnes Caylor with the Club Creed, prayer and song. Scripture was read by Lillian Slater which was the 46th Psalm. Roll call was given and it was voted to give $1.00 to the Red Cross.

Ellen Hanna, Gladys Landreth and Esther Johnson received birthday gifts. There were five visitors present, Nettie Scott, Rose Johnson, Dena Johnson, Minnie Floberg and Geneva Riggins, Lincoln, Neb. A delicious lunch was served and a social time was enjoyed. The club will meet with Agnes Caylor, April -Reporter. Friendly Neighbors HDU Friendship Circle Club The Friendly Neighbors HDU met with Mrs.

Earl Smith with a potluck dinner at noon. The afternoon meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. George Saville. Mrs. Milton Nanninga discussed Program Planning.

A delicious lunch was served at the close of the meeting. The unit will meet next with Mrs. Virgil Ekstrum. -Reporter. Mothers Club Meets The Mothers Club met March 27 with Mrs.

Max Gaston with nine members present. The meeting was opened by the vice president, Sylvia Ely, in the absence of the president, by repeating the Lord's Prayer in unison. Roll call was won by Marie Mitchell. Birthday gifts were received by Racheal Hawkins and Marie Mitchell. The vice president read a letter from a former member, Dale Witt.

She also handed out pamphlets on TB x-ray and urged all members to get their x-rays when the mobile unit comes to Axtell on April 8. Games were furnished by the hostess. with Racheal Hawkins, Sylvia Ely and Mary Torrey winning prizes. The next meeting is with Racheal Hawkins April 10. Roll call will be a household or garden hint, alSO flower Stitch and Chatter Club The Stitch and Chatter club was held at the home of Gladys and June Bernasek with eleven members present and three guests who were Nina Conable, Caryl Jones and daughter, Dorene.

Game prizes were won by Mildred Kabriel and Nina Conable; Nina also won the door prize. A light lunch of gingersnap ice cream pie and coffee with and candies and nuts was served the guests. The next meeting is to be at Alta Burton's April 23 and roll call will be to come as a girl of "Sweet Bruce Gress Is Three Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gress entertained with a dinner Monday evening honoring the third birthday anniversary of their grandson, little Bruce Gress, son of Mr.

J. Gress and sons, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. F.

Taylor of Beattie. The Ladies Were Guests It was "Queens' Night" at the Lions Club dinner meeting Thursday evening of last week held at the City Cafe. About 40 members and guests were present, including Mr. and Mrs. Don Bachtel, Bern; Mr.

and Mrs. Roy Head, and Bob Bicker, of Emporia. Bob Torrey received his membership certificate and pin. Wayne Myers, program chairman, presented two humorous skits, the first was a description of a cattle feeder's first visit to a football game; the next, a father giving singing lessons to his son. Both were heartily enjoyed group.

Bridal Shower A bridal shower was held at the home of Mrs. Violet Crago and Emily Limbaugh, Kansas City, on March 20, in honor of Miss Patricia Halfen who was married to Donald Meyer. March 22 in Kansas City, The bride elect received many nice gifts. Patiricia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

David Boose and children, Teresa and Mark of Lecompton, Kansas spent Sunday at the Wm. McBride home. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Renyer of Sabetha spent Sunday with her parents, Mr.

and Mrs. V. A. Buessing. Mr.

and Mrs. Herman Kuckelman and children, Sarah, Alice and Jodie, went to Kansas City, Sunday morning to visit their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mulryan, who are the parents of a baby son born Sunday morning. Stevie Mulryan came home with them to stay until his mother is released from the hospital.

Mildred Broxterman of Topeka spent the week end with her parents, Leo Broxtermans. Clayton and Stanley Hasenkamp spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hasenkamp. The farmers got in the first good week of the season last week.

He was the youngest child of Frank and Bridget Reilly, early St.

Bridget settlers, and was the last surviving member of the family. Brothers and sisters preceding him in death were: Francis Reilly who died as a youth, the late P. C. Reilly, Beattie, Kansas, Sr. M.

Marcella, Sisters of Charity, Leavenworth, Kansas, Sister M. Claver, Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, Kansas, Miss Catherine Reilly, Topeka, Mrs. Jas. O'Toole, Axtell, and a half-brother, Thomas Coyne, Axtell.

In 1905 he was married to Miss Katie Shaughnessy, St. Bridget. To this union were born the following children, all of whom survive him: Edward and Patrick Reilly, Topeka; Mrs. Ivard Marhenke and John M. Reilly, Eureka, Kansas; and Mrs.

Oscar Cooke, St. Joseph, Mo. His. wife passed away in 1923. In 1934 he was married to Miss Emma Blimm, at Wichita, who is left to mourn his passing.

Services were held at St. Francis Catholic church, Newkirk, Friday, March 21, and burial was at St. Bridegt's cemetery, Saturday, March 22. Pallbearers at the cemetery were Joseph Coffey, Charles Shaughnessy, Thomas Murray, Sidney Sharpe, John Hynes and Glenn Madden. Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca, assisted with local arrangements.

Crandall, Seneca, were here Monday visiting Axtell relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. J. Porter Grove visited Sunday in Kansas City with their daughter and family, Mr.

and Mrs. Richard Sacha, son Richard Evan. Mr. and Mrs. Don Welborn and children, Kansas City, came Sunday and visited over Monday with his parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Lee Welborn. Other guests at the Welborn home Sunday were their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon and daughters of Hanover.

She is visiting her brother, Elvin E. Cook, who is home for a couple weeks from the Veterans Hospital at Boise, Idaho, where he is a patient. Mr. and Mrs. Henry F.

Deters accompanied their son, Jack, who had been here on vacation from his work, back to Topeka, where they were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don Deters. Friday Mr. and Mrs.

Henry Deters and Jack went to Enid, where they spent the week end with their daughter and family, and Mrs. Andrew Durkes and daughter, Donna Jean. Leaving here Wednesday for Ada, were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bartlett and family.

They were accompanied by Mrs. Bartlett's mother, Mrs. I. Graves, who had been visiting them the past 10 days. The Bartletts will spend the Easter vacation at Ada.

Mr. and Mrs. R. M. VanHyning visited in Waterville Sunday.
