Sheriff's Department U. Thomas Audley said homes were being burglarized at a rate of about two a day, mainly in the towns of Vernon, Mukwonago, Merton and Delafield. He said about 40 percent of those burglaries have been solved, and interviews with burglary suspects have revealed a majority of them have ties to Milwaukee gangs. "They've learned that Waukesha County is easy because most people don't have big dogs, the houses are spread out and (neighbors) don't seem to do much," he said. Audley said Milwaukee gangs are believed to have been involved in about 70 percent of 150 so-called "door kick" burglaries in the county during the last eight months.

Racine County authorities believe the gangs are also responsible for a number of burglaries in the area. The burglars have been following a pattern in which they first knock on the door during daylight hours to see if anybody is home. If somebody answers, they generally ask for directions or offer to shovel the jjriveway. "If there's no answer, they kick in the front door," Audley said. The lieutenant said the burglars then enter the house, open the garage door from the inside, and back a vehicle into it.

They then fill up the trunk of the car with electronic FRIDLE, Nancy (Pencikowski), 4 formerly of Racine, Feb. 4, Hondo, Texas. ANDERSON, Esther 8fJ formerly of Racine, Feb. 7, Lakeland Nursing Home, Elkhorn, Maresh -Meredith Funeral Home. PETERSON, Mrs.

The entire burglary takes between five and ten minutes, Audley said, and the stolen items are usually sold within eight hours.

"They aren't retaining these items," he said, "so it's almost impossible to solve these burglaries through search warrants." Audley urged community organizations and county residents Tuesday to form neighborhood watch groups to combat the problem. "The only really solid defense we have against it is the neighborhood watches," he said. "There aren't enough (police officers) to be around all the time." Audley also urged area residents to report to police the license plate numbers of people who show up and ask' to shovel their driveways or ask directions. He added that people interested in forming neighborhood watch groups should contact the sheriff's department. F.m i 1 120-Watt Rack System Lowest Price Ever!
