Oakland Tribune, Tuesday, Jan. 31, 1961 OBITUARIES James Harry Young HAYWARD, Jan. 31-Masonic services will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in the Garden Chapel of Pratt-Flierl Mortuary for James Harry Young, a retired newspaper columnist. Mr.

Young, 87, who died Friday in an Oakland hospital after a long illness, worked for the Alameda Times Star for 20 years. A resident of Alameda County for 66 years, he lived at 1889 A St. and was the oldest member of Eden Lodge, Masons, San Leandro. He is survived by a nephew, Frank W. Young, of San Jose.

Kathleen Rickey SAN LEANDRO, Jan. 31- A Requiem High Mass for Mrs. Kathleen Rickey, former long-time resident of San Leandro, will be sung Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Leander's Church.

Formerly a resident of 300 Garcia Mrs. Rickey and her husband, Robert, moved last year to Santa Cruz where she died of a heart attack last Thursday. During her 38-year residence here, Mrs. Rickey was a member of the Catholic Ladies Aid of St. Leander's Church, the Third Order of St.

Francis of St. Elizabeth, the Catholic Daughters, Hanna Institute of the YLI, and the Alta Mira Club of San Leandro. In addition to her husband she is survived by ter, Mrs. Eleanor Blurton, two sisters and four grandchildren. A Rosary service will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m.

at the Guerrero and Seramur Mortuary, 407 Estudillo Ave. John J. Gould John J. Gould, Bay Area structural engineer and partner in the firm of Gould and Degenkolb, died in San Francisco yesterday of a heart attack. He was 63.

He was responsible for the structural design of the buildings at the International Exposition on Treasure Island, Park Merced Towers, the Firemen's Fund Insurance Building, and four city garages, all in San Francisco. Born in Switzerland, he came to the Bay Area in 1925. Surviving are his wife, Helen, of Ross; and a son, Richard B. Gould. Private funeral services will be held tomorrow at Ross.

Millicent Thomas Mrs. Millicent Lloyd Thomas, daughter of a California Gold Rush miner, died in Oakland yesterday. Mrs. Thomas lived in Oakland for 29 years. She was 92 and had lived in an Oakland rest home since 1953.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Sutter Creek two years after her parents had come to the mining fields from Cardiff, Wales, England. Her late husband was the son of the manager of Melinkoff Mines of Nevada County. Private services will be held tomorrow at the Chapel of Memories, Howe St. and MacArthur.

Blvd. Mrs. Jessie M. Treat Death has claimed Mrs. Jessie McGilvray Treat, 79, wife of Professor Emeritus Payson Jackson Treat, who formerly Board to Act on Principal Post The Oakland Board of Education will act on a recommendation today for the appointment of Dr.

George C. Bliss, principal of Oakland Technical High School, as principal of the new hill area high school. The administration proposal calls for the appointment of Jack Borum, principal at Westlake Junior High School, to replace Bliss at Oakland Technical High. A veteran of 36 years with the Oakland schools, Dr. Bliss has worked as a teacher and administrator at Lockwood, John Swett, Grant, Sherman and Bret Harte schools.

From 1947 to 1952, he was principal of San Leandro High School, leaving there when the high school was transferred from the Oakland School District. He lives at 11 Brentwood Place. Allied "Everything in Business Supplies" 325 22nd Oakland TE 2-0505 Bay Dies Here at Age of 72 Mrs. Florence Colby Battram, widow of a business machine executive and a musical composer of note, died here Sunday at the age of 72. Mrs. Battram, a resident here since 1922, was the widow of Frederick Battram, a Remington Rand executive who died here in 1945. She lived at 1176 Sunnyhills Road.

A graduate in 1909 of the Denver University, she took her master's degree in music in 1911 at Columbia University. Mrs. Battram won the San Francisco Patricia Morbio award in 1939 for her original composition of "Hills." Mrs. Battram also was a charter member and past secretary of the national Sigma Kappa Sorority; Berkeley Chapter of the National League of American Pen Women; Oakland branch of the American Association of University Women; the Music Teachers of California and the First Unitarian Church of Oakland. Survivors include two second cousins, Lewis J.

Colby of Sonoma and Wesley Trounson of Idaho, Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Albert Brown Mortuary. Jack H. Helms son, Jack Helms of Orinda. SERVICE STARTS FEB.

Helms, 59, was vice president and secretary of Johnson Higgins of California in Francisco. Burton J. Moyer, University of California professor of physics, has been named Seattie Pacific College's Alumnus of the Year. Dr. Moyer, co-discoverer of the neutral meson, a particle of the atomic nucleus, was cited by his alma mater for "excellence in his field, loyalty to Seattle Pacific, and exemplification of the Christian ideals of the college." A graduate of the Seattle Pacific College class of 1933, he obtained his doctor's degree at the University of Washington and taught at Greenville College, before joining the University of California faculty. He lives at 878 Arlington Ave.

Her husband, regarded one of the world's foremost authorities on Japan, is author of eight books on the Far East. Their home is the Stanford campus. Funeral services were held today in Palo Alto.

Mrs. Harriet Lanktree SANTA ROSA, Jan. 31- Mrs. Harriet Lanktree, 101, niece of early American novelist James Fenimore Cooper and widow of Oakland attorney Wilbur Lanktree, died here yesterday. Mrs.

Lanktree, whose husband once was counsel for the Key System, at one time taught school in Washington State. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sue Kenney of Santa Rosa and Mrs. Elizabeth Sampson of San Marino. Dorothy Coxen Final rites will 1 be held for Dorothy H.

Coxen at 1:30 p.m. today at the Albert Engle Chapel, 3630 Telegraph Ave. Miss Coxen died Saturday after a brief illness. She was 58. Miss Coxen, a resident of Oakland and San Francisco for more than 25 years, lived at 3439 Guido St.

She was Past Matron of Sterling Chapter No. 533 of the Order of Ameranth, and she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Post 1010, of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Miller Is Named U.S. Campus Mgr. BERKELEY, Jan.

31 Frank W. Miller Jr. is now acting business manager of the University of California campus here. Miller, who has been assistant business manager, succeeds Forrest E. Tregea in the post.

Pleitner by deed dated June 8th 1904 and recorded June 9th 1904, in Book 962 of Deeds, page 384, Alameda County Records; thence Northwesterly along said line of said tract above mentioned 150 feet; thence Northeasterly parallel with said line of High Street 55 feet; thence Southeasterly parallel with said line of said tract 150 feet to the Northwestern line of High Street; thence Southwesterly along said line of High Street 55 feet to the place of beginning. SECTION 2.

The Right of Way and Land Officer is hereby authorized and directed to take the necessary steps to complete said acquisition. SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall take effect sixty (60) days after Its final passage. In Council, Oakland, Jan. 24, 1961.
